Water leak on water pump or thermostat?

I would have thought the plastic housing you are showing would be a thermostat. A water pump would have a metal housing i think.

I recently changed my thermostat and water pump. In your photo the water pump pulley is the one I have circled below20181216_174127.jpg
Obviously this is mounted on the water pump itself. Mine was dripping down onto the belts (spraying everywhere !), engine block and gathering on the under tray.
In your other photo the coolant at the joint between the radiator bottom hose and the thermostat has probably leaked out of a failed o-ring seal on the water temperature sensor shown arrowed in this photo.20181216_174324.jpg
This is the water temperature sensor with green o-ring in situ. 20181216_175255.jpg
I bought one on Ebay a couple of years ago. It's an easy job to replace providing you can get your hands in as access is tight

A brand new temp sensor with o-ring is only £3.49 on Ebay https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F392122766263
I'd start with that first. If that fixes your leak then happy days. I bought a Wahler Thermostat for £38 and a Meyle HD water pump for £23, both on Ebay. Fitted them myself. Not difficult but you need to undo the nearside engine mount and jack up the engine a little otherwise the old water pump will foul on the front cross member during removal.

Does the coolant need to be renewed after the temp sender is fitted...I.e does the coolant leak out while replacing??
