Thanks for the detailing pic

, maybe a daft question or very simple answer but what does the tape do, protect the edges?
I section it off..... its too much work doing the whole car in one hit if you are going to machine and polish it effectively 5 times so I do sections/panels at a time then tape that bit off and do the next. Its low tack polishing tape and so it doesnt harm the finish. Then when its all done I do one final pass with some concours wax to get any tiny tack marks off.
If you dont section bits off you tend to lose concentration on particular areas and just keep aimlessly polishing/machining. I only do this method when 2 or 3 stage machining to be fair.... not when polishing in general.

As requested!
Side panels after three machine passes and a sealant...... pre-wax
Completed 9 hours so far..... still got the passenger side and the rear bumper to do. Next its the external trim and finally then the interior. Will probably total around 16 hours or so by the time its finished.
Not done the front bumper as in all fussiness.... I would rather get a fresh coat of stone-chipless paint on it! lol
That looks really really good mr Playboy!
I'm planning to detail my Interlagos Blue Z4MC pretty soon, have most of the equipment (Festool Rotex 125, 4x polish compound, 4x pads, clay, lubricant, wax).
I understand proper detailing is a serious skill, first gonna practice a bit on spare panels.
Any obvious do's and don'ts for a newbie detailer wannabe?
My plan;
- thorough wash, dry (both with microfiber), clay, rinse, dry, start polishing with middle compound and work my way up to finer grit, wash, dry and apply wax.
Since you seem to know what you are doing, any advice is welcome 8)
Well I can tell you what I did with this particular motor......
Washed, ( I usually use 50/50 mix of Chemical Guys Maxi Suds and also Mr Pink. (One acts as a brilliant lubricant so you dont scratch or swirl the paint and the Maxi Suds does a good job of lifting the dirt away from the surface) This is of course after a good coat of snow foam. I wash using a Dodo Juice Wookie Fist/Mitt.
This wash method is essential in keeping a car virtually swirl free (check out the Rangey pics... that was hard to keep that black immaculate)
As for the detailing bit....
Clayed using Meguires kit
1 x DA Machine (didnt use a rotary on this hence the sodding time taken!) using scratch/swirl reducing Sonus Pad and Menzerna Compounds
1 x DA Machine using a slightly finer grade Menzerna power finish compound
1 x DA Machine using Poorboys Black Hole which is great for those annnoying final fine imperfections (unless you have wet-flatted it) as it contains fine grade fillers. Work this into the car paint till it almost disappears to really bring the metallic fleck out.
1 x Hand coat of Collinite 476 to seal it in hard and protect giving longevity. (would give a second coat if doing in winter)
1 x Hand coat of R222 Carnauba wax to give it a final lustre.
TIME TAKEN = 18 hours (including the interior)
I will now just maintain it with a coat of Meguires Last Touch detailer spray after each wash and between polishes. Some may think I am mad... for me though I am happy in the knowledge my car is the best it can be (without handing it over to a professional that is) and I only have to go through that once if I look after it.

Have you driven it yet or just cleaned it and looked at it ??
Until this morning I had driven it a total of 18 miles from where it was delivered to my office on the Friday, to my house where it went straight in the garage after washing and hasnt come out until it was all finished.... I even drove a right ol banger into work yesterday because I didnt want to put it back on the road until it was finished. But now there will be LOTS of driving and started with a blast into work this morning!

Lovely, you're not at work today then?
I managed to squeeze in tyres, trim, glass and interior cleaning last night. need an excuse for a drive, sadly the only thing ive got coming up is SW London to Essex this evening, and frankly id rather take the train.
Oh yes I am! Got to the office for 8:45 as per usual.... (I only usually sleep around 4hrs anyway) lol
NEXT - The new wheels and suspension..... should be ordering that by the weekend.
