Watch suggestions

I like Hamilton very much , also have an Oris diver too decent quality at reasonable prices, personally would avoid Tag bit to fashion for mee.

First one just over the £1000 second one just under. If unsure as to metal or leather strap ,buy with metal ,and purchase alternative leather, probably the cheapest option.

Okay so the next question now that I have had suggestions and found the potential one I like is..

What is the risk to buying the watch online rather than in a store? Savings of £300-400 online compared to in store prices, is there a catch? Certain sites worse than others etc?

Oris are fantastic watches. I have had the Diver/date for about 5 years and the fit and finish is right up there with my Breitling, for considerably fewer $$. (Full disclosure - I was the moderator of the Oris forum on a watch site for a few years, so I have a soft spot for these watches, although I feel it's completely justified. Have a good look at one and compare it to more expensive brands - you'll have to look very hard to see what you're paying the extra for with some other brands...).
I also recommend Ball watches, but I'm not sure what sort of representation they have in the UK? Also, not being a great fan of skeleton watches, I can't really recommend any brands/models - but best of luck with the hunt.
Also agree with the comments about TAG - don't buy one if you want something with any resale value, or something that others will necessarily appreciate. Tag's appeal has dimmed considerably over the past few years. Having said that, I love the Tag Carerra - CV2014.BA0794 (google it), and own a Tag 1000 Spirotechnique, so I'm not putting the brand down myself.
There is plenty of help available on the watch forums, but beware of the watch 'snobbery' that creeps in on some forums in particular (not naming names here) - take all advice under consideration but always choose what you love and you'll be happy.

I'd second the Oris choice - I've got a diver, which has been rock solid for the last 5 years too. Classic styling, great build quality at a 'reasonable' cost. Somehow the always seem to slip under the radar when it comes to articles etc in magazines, but perhaps they don't have the marketing budget of some of the bigger brands.

Oris is the brand I am looking at.

Question is do you buy in store or online and why? Online is alot cheaper

Online. Assuming you are sure it fits and feels right on the wrist. You have a lot of protection. I bought my last watch online from the US and it was fine. Okay it was a Seiko, but service was quick. I have bought many more expensive things via the web and never had a problem.

Google Helson watches.

I was dubious at first but went for the Shark Diver with 42mm case and stainless strap.

The quality is absolutely superb with an excellent weight. I have owned 2 Breitlings in the past and the feel and build quality are not far off at all.

I paid 540usd for mine with free shipping from Hong Kong. They do a huge range and although they are not well known, they have excellent reviews on various watch forums.

Don't rule out Christopher Ward watches. My Trident is as good (if not better) quality than my Tag Heure. I'm very impressed

Oris is one of the few watch makers that retail online - legally and with full support of the brand. The online sales are divided into regions however, so if you saw a good deal on Friends of Oris (Australian online dealer) you might not be able to take advantage of it unless your local retailer can match it. I have heard good things about CW but don't have any experience with them.
Don't forget to post up here what you end up with.

So I am a fan of skeleton watches so the one I have chosen is an Oris Artelier Skeleton, kudos to Mister T for suggesting it!

Hence looking into where is best to buy from, may try it on in person first to check fit so that no issues with online shopping

Well done. As I said, I'm not a fan of this style (I don't like the hands getting 'lost' in the background), but I'm sure you will be more than satisfied with the quality, it is a classy piece.
Wear it in good health

There's currently 15% off CW watches.
15%+a further 10% for 5 days if you're a current customer..........

Nice choice.

Funny you say that, I was thinking about Oris too

Me too , footwork & homework done on the Oris Aquis date , now the dilemma of where & when to pull the trigger

any thoughts watch fans ??

If I buy a watch I tend to keep hold of it, so that offer of 10% down and interest free credit from Beaverbrooks would probably sway it for me :)

Liking this one mr w, and watchfinder are very good.
