Watch Repair and Despair final update

Thanks again guys

I did pay by credit card so that might be an option to pursue if I get no joy, I just think though it could get messy and they just claim my word against theirs. I will see also if I can find who owns the company.

In hindsight I wished now I had taken some date stamped photos on the day the watch was sent but you think sending it to a watch repair specialist it would be in safe hands. I didn't give it a second thought to be honest.

Tim.

That's not the same watch. Of course someone can drop it, which might explain the ding, but the scratches accumulate over a period of time, so unless someone has been wearing it as a daily for the month then I can't see how it is even possible. I'd be on to your credit card company and claim that this is a fraudulent transaction....watch how quickly they sort this issue when they get threatened with not being able to accept further Visa/Mastercard payments.

As suggested it might not be the same case, the case back is the original as has the correct serial number so I have suggested to them have they mixed up the case whilst working on another watch at the same time. I think there maybe something in this as I just can't believe a repairer would treat a watch like that and send it back thinking it's all good which makes me think they have just cocked up somewhere. It's more dificult for me as the case on the watch was unmarked in my hands so its hard to tell if it is the same case or not.

All I can do is wait for the moment and hope they get back to me.

I wonder if they sell watches through another channel.
Yours may have had the case swapped with another that they could now sell on for more profit if its in better condition.
This might sound far fetched but strange things do happen.

Don't leave it too long if you are planning on speaking to your credit card company - there is a time limit for claims.

As a start to claiming against them, I think you should put all the relevant dates and correspondance/telecons/emails that you have and get it posted Royal Mail recorded/signed for. The small claims court (now called something different I think) will not act until two weeks following their receipt of your claim, supposedly giving them time to respond. Could be they will act responsibly when threatened with legal action, but having just read some of the 1* reviews on their website, I doubt it. All the very best in pursuing justice.

Thanks for the advice and replies again, much appreciated, I will see how I get on this coming week. Reading peoples comments on their Facebook page it seems communication or lack of looks to be at the top fo the tree and the length of time it takes to undertake the work. They had the watch for 3 months  which doesnt bode well.

Ironic really as I was just thinking of taking the watch to a local horologist/jewellers as they've been in town for 70 years or even H.Samuel or Ernest Jones as they do high end watch repairs but thought it would be safer sending it someone more specialist with a glossy website

A guy with thick sausage fingers working from his roof leaking garden shed with a hammer, chisel and belt sander can have a glossy website Tim...which ironically looks like the same guy that’s done your watch.....

Hope you get sorted....that’s a freakin’ mess by anyone’s standard....

Thanks John that cheered me up

Thing is I don't feel like wearing the damn thing now, 550 quid lighter and feel my pants have well and truly been pulled down.

Somewhere there will be a Trust Pilot review on this company from a customer enjoying the new case on their Tag Heuer Monaco

Tim.

Thankfully the repairers have come back to me this morning. Apparently they sent the watch to Tag Heuer themselves to do the repair as sometimes if it's a restricted Calibre or something they will send the watch directly to the manufacturer. The said I didn't opt for the case refurbishment which was another 60 quid on top of the 550 but I've said the reason I didn't is because the watch case was perfect and didn't need a repolish :headbang:

Anyways they're sending me a prepaid special delivery bag to send the watch back and they are going to send it back to Tag Heuer for it to be assessed and to compare the watch to the the images Tag took of the watch when it was delivered to them.

So I guess see what happens. I get the feeling they might be trying to shift the blame onto Tag and then will say Tag won't play ball on providing a solution. Not being cynical or anything

What a faff.

Tim.

Worse case scenario.. Pay the 60 quid and have it refurbished, know you shouldn't have to but better to have it back mint at this point.. Hopefully though this company will pony up and do the right thing

Thanks alot, I hope so, I'm really starting to think buy a cheap Casio instead and be done. Its just a bit galling I took the time to track down a watch in perfect condition for it to be treated crap and paying 550 notes for the privelage.

I think next time I need to do my homework more on this type of thing to avoid disappointment.

Yeah, I think the fact it went to tag makes it more likely its a mix up with the case if they had a few of them on site as has been said before you just can't do that kind of damage with a service and repair, hopefully the pics tag took on arrival will back this up and you'll get a full resolution and a partial refund for the inconvenience should be the least they could do

I've said this to LWR that I think Tag have messed up along the way and put the wrong case on the watch. If that's the case and they admit that which I doubt then I'd want a new replacement case, I don't think that's unreasonable. I would just about accept a repolish but the fact there's a chunk out of one of the lugs I can't see just a polish being acceptable or would fix the issue.

Thats shocking what they have done. I have an Oris watch which needs a repair. People in Tring seemed crap to deal with on email and just fobbed me off. Looked at the reviews of the people you sent the watch too and decided to avoid them. Sadly its still here broken, but not destroyed like yours.
With regards to small claims, I have been in dispute with 2 broken mountain bike frames from Cannondale this year. The first broke, they sent a replacement. Second lasted 8 weeks and they said I wasnt getting another. A few emails advising them of legally pursuing this and then a quick form filling in and paying £30 ( varies with your value) and within 10 days , I had a newer version of the frame arrive . Was painless with it all and worth it, if it comes to it for you.

Thank you. I think all I can now is send the watch back and hope they don't lose it :? and they will come good and sort it out.

I really don't want to be doing solicitors and small claims court but one way or the other may well be only answer if they don't put it right.

Tim.

Tim I would phone tag directly mate and see what they say. They will have a record of your watch if they did the work. I had issues with tag when servicing my watch so having these issues it wouldn’t surprise me if they were involved!

There was no solicitors or anything, just an on line form explaining the basis of your claim and against whom. They advise on sending a 'pre-court intention' letter, which you can find on CAB. Then , after they ignore that, which they did, then a court letter , so simple and if it comes to it in your case, dont be afraid to deal with it in this way. If you have a genuine case, which you have then you will wont be the one with the court issue.

Thanks Inkey and the above for the advice its much appreciate. I guess really now I just need to give them the chance to put things right so hopefully I won't need to take things further.

I'am a little suprised they sent the watch to Tag Heuer and as suggested it might be worth calling them and whilst at it ask for a quote to service a Monaco :? It would be sticking the knife in if their quote was much cheaper :o
