Hi all - new to the board, Ex-S2000, Ex-Evo driver, looking to buy into Z4M-dom.

Specifically, a 2006 or 7, any colour but silver.

Any advice welcome - will keep an eye on the For Sale section here!

Welcome. Buyers checklist here:

Any preference over mileage, options etc?

Thanks for the welcome :)

Mileage - average or lower. Options - I need to do some more reading (BMW is a marque I've never owned before), but the hifi is important, and the sat-nav less so!

Appreciate the guidance.

Welcome along Alastair. Hope you find the M of your dreams; lots of good advice on here and you may find a potential seller too

Oh, and I'm selling my Evo VI... might as well pop that up on here as well :)

EDIT: now posted (in case anyone wants a swap!) http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=24179

I'd buy straight from BMW approved used if possible for the piece of mind and 1 year warranty (which can be extended thereafter). Just be sure that all the vital servicing has been carried out on time, especially the 1200 mile running-in service and by BMW. With the roadster I wanted the OEM wind deflector (can be retrofitted), heated seats, carbon leather dash and definitely the upgraded sound system with DSP and subs behind the seats. Obviously the nav and bluetooth are popular options but not entirely necessary.

As you come across prospective cars you can post them up here and there'll be plenty of us willing to give an unbiased opinion  Good luck!

There's no "Thanks" button on this Forum. So, "Thanks"!

Bluetooth'd be great. Carbon dash also. But neither are showstoppers for the right car.

Hi and welcome

Just don't get one with brushed aluminium or wood, just wrong in an ///M IMO

Personally, I would expect an ///M to have all or at least all the most important extras - including Nav.

I wouldn't buy a less well-equipped car unless this was generously reflected in the price, as for certain it will have to be reflected sometime later in YOUR selling price

Both of those statements are true from what I can tell! Kind of irritating, but that's life :)

I've seen BMW drivers using Tom-Toms instead of the in-car Nav before, so I'm not expecting great things of it...

But it is not just a satnav, it can display / control all your ipod information, you get the extended board computer functions, phone is integrated with phonebook etc.

I primarily use it for the above too. But personally I don't think the nav is that bad, so long as you have the latest maps and the custom firmware with alerts etc. Sure it looks prehistoric but functionally it does the job IMO.

In a couple of years the cars with the old satnav may be more difficult to shift, technology moves on quickly
