christ its a lot fatter! think ill be ording one next week then lol

If we group buy (5+) you think there would be a discount to be had?

the price already is good, considering Coopers charges £280 for this, and if you get this through Joe,will cost you about £245 (if you don't need the extra cable would be about £240) inclusive of postage, which is great value.

Just fitted my MFSW and all plugged in nicely and as it should have.
Trouble is that the buttons on the actual wheel dont work? Any ideas?

...or does the MFSW need activating software wise if it wasnt standard?

What year is your car?did you have to wire it yourself or just plug & play? It doesn't need any coding, I just plugged mine in and placed the new wheel and that was it. Do they light up?my phone related buttons don't work as haven't got bluetooth.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Navid. My car is a late 2004 manufactured Zed and was just plug and play. Cant tell if it lights up or not at the moment as it's too light outside. The wheel is lovely, just currently non-functional :(

Everything is correctly plugged in? The only thing I can suggest is to take it off and double check the connections :( it is very strange that it doesn't work.

I also fancy having the MFSW kit fitted. Maybe a bit dumb here but what wiring is already in the car and what else would I need to add for all the functions (inc. cruise) to work?

I have an 04 3.0i without cruise.

Cheers, Nick

Nick,

When in 2004 your car is registered? Before or after October? As the cars before Oct have the wiring done. the mfsw doesn't control the cruise it is on a separate stalk below the indicator.

Cheers Navid. Very confusing there's no function as it all seemed a straightforward plug and play job.

It was registered in May 2004, so I guess I should be OK. Thanks for that.

No probs Nick,as you can see you can order your mfsw & cruise control from Joe @ Sopers of Lincoln, very good guy and perfect service.

Inkey,
Any change?

I still have a 4-spoke multi-function steering wheel with airbag from my old E39 in the garage. I'm not sure what it is worth.

Does anyone want it in the Zed? :D

No, not yet navid, as I've not had time to reinstall. Once I do and if I still experience issues then I'll be heading to my local indy to see if they have more luck and potentially updating/activating the software for it.

Update: Still not had time to take of the wheel and refit to see if I've missed anything. Emailed Joe at Sopers yesterday for his advice on what my local service department told me so awaiting his feedback too. Called AMC in Wimbledon too (specialist Indy) and they told me I might not have the correct module to support a MFSW?! :headbang:

this is very strange as I do have the same sort of car as you,and it was just plug & play,no coding or programming needed! Joe will get back to you,if he didn't,he will need a reminder :) as he is a busy boy

I fitted my MFSW last weekend to my Z4 3.0 (manufactured Oct 2003)

I fitted all the wires, including the one that appears to be linked to the buttons on the wheel but after reconnecting the buttons dont work - i thought mine was supposed to be prewired :|

Okay I called BMW Blackheath today and explained my problem to them. That I have fitted my MFSW but its not multi functioning. They quoted me £237.60 to diagnose it (up to an hour) and update the software (upto another hour). Thats about what I paid for the wheel?!

So, instead of that does anybody know of a good, cheap indy that could do this for me; or know of anybody with the software and capability to switch this wheel on? This problem is starting to get very frustrating - especially reading that on the whole, most people don't have any issues at all! :headbang:

snap - im in the same boat - wheel fitted but buttons arent working - thought mine was pre-wired, and i dont fancy pull the dashboard apart to retor fit the wires

Outrageous to charge that much, but then again they are in effect taking over a DIY job so almost a penalty charge

Questions guys
Are you sure your cars were built after 09/03 as that's the cut off date (not the date registered of course)
Are wires in the correct position as per the retrofit pdf instruction for an 09/03 or prior car. So close to the cut off I'd want to be doubly sure they were fitted.

Check pins 9 and 10 in plug X10170

Extract of retrofit instructions:
Disconnect plug X10170 from the slip ring.
Connect branches H1 and H2 to plug X10170 as
follows:
- Branch H1, VI/GE cable, to PIN 10
- Branch H2, WS/RT/GE cable, to PIN 9
