Want to carry a spare

Make sure you store the tyre wheel-face down, as this means you'll have the space inside the rim to store stuff too :thumbsup:
 
I've got a space-saver rather than a full-size alloy as a spare:

- cost: 17" BMW space-saver cost me <£40 on ebay, a full-size alloy plus tyre would be >£150?

- sport setup: I guess anyone with the sport setup would carry a 8.0x18 with 225/40/18 tyre, but Sod's Law you'd puncture the rear. I know it'll fit back or front but again it'd only be a temporary measure if on the rear.

- the extra space a full-size wheel takes over a space-saver: I'd be able to load the "extra" luggage to accomodate the punctured full-size wheel by raising the soft-top shelf to expand the boot/trunk (I always have it lowered), and lumping the rest of the luggage on top of the passenger LOL. Job done.
