LG and Panasonic both doing 50'' plasma for £499 now.....

£499?! Christ, I paid just under £2000 for a 52" Samsung only last year.

Well, 6 years ago I paid £3000 for a 26'' Phillips LCD

Still not decided whether I want Plasma with 3D or LED without, these are the two I'm thinking of choosing between, any opinions?

PANASONIC TX-P42UT50B 42" PLASMA 3D SMART TV £499 Comet
Panasonic TX-L42E5B 42" Full HD 1080p LED TV with Freeview HD £539 Richer Sounds

http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/287749/module/general/compare/products/displayResult.html?p=TX-L42E5B&p=TX-P42UT50B

Or any other alternatives for no more than these cost? Going to have a look at these tomorrow

Recently seen some of the lower price ( if you can call them that) loewes and they are stunning ,

Depends what and where- Panasonic offer better sound than most so are well suited for non home cinema uses, we have a 46 Sony that I'm very happy with and wall mounts to leave a real sleek finish..

But at that price go for the Loewe

Do you need 3d, have you got any 3d sources to plug into it?

No don't need 3D, but that TV comes with 2x free glasses and it may be nice to have just in case

I was told that big screen plasmas need re-gassing?-is this correct?

Myth - it will die before that would ever happen. Plasma is a dying breed these days...

If you want a whopper get Sharps new LC-70LE741E. 70 inches of LED for sub £2300 - you just cant grumble!

We bought a LG 550T HD,LED smart tv 42in from Richer sounds about 11 months ago.Cost about £550 ,fantastic picture.

40" rather than 42" and no wi-fi possible negatives

Everyone going for Panny..I was a Panny fanboy for years....

Had a 42" Plasma.......Went faulty.
Replaced with a 46" Panny plasma.....Faulty..

Replaced with a 42" Samsung LCD/LED........Been superb and picture knocks spots off the previous panny's..

I still have a 32" Panny LCD in the bedroom thats been rock solid.......But when it goes a Samsung will replace it..

I have also had a Philips Plasma, which was superb and is still going strong some 9 years later..

Had an Hitachi LCD............It was crap.....lasted about 8 months and got thrown back to suppliers!

i have a Samsung series 8, 3D + Smart TV.

The 3D i never use... and certainly can live without and i love watching my films.

But I love the SMART TV internet connectivity... thought it was pointless at first but now with the app - netflicks and iplayer built in its awesome! Even uTube is a giggle at times! Saves using my PS3 to play online content.

Def worth getting internet enabled if you are getting a new one.

I have the same TV as yours. Do you find it doesn't retain the wireless settings? Meaning you have to keep in entering password details

The only time i have had to do this is when i have had the mains turned off over an extended period - so if i ever go on hols i unplug it. Otherwise it has never asked me to re enter it.

Sorry- your 1st post said 40-44 inches.

Wifi dongle is a £30 extra.

If picture quality is of no consequence to you, go with a major manufacturer who are churning out cack tvs with their name on to attract the masses. This TV is the business - for this proce it's a defo goer for anyone and it looks the business.
