VW Golf MK 7 GTI

Brand new cars are expensive, I don't see the differentiation between a £30k Golf and a £30K 1 series BMW. People choose to buy new and with respect mr wilks your argument is on this basis new or used, there are advantages and disadvantages of both but please don't try to say used is better, as it's all about choice.

However, I would rather have an S3 maniac, just because the inside is a better place to be.

Who mentioned a 1 series ? Not me , That,s another car that i can,t see the money in , way overpriced new & used IMO rather have a used 3 series
I also have never said used is better than new
My own thoughts are merely showing that offer up the Golf at whatever the price £29k? / £34k? & then compare with what other vehicles can be had (whether that be used, new or ex demo ) & you would be in a minority if you bought one with your own hard earned cash
Unless you are gifted with a surplus of never ending readies then buying a brand new £30k car does not make financial sense , bought through a business is a different matter as it can be offset against tax & therefore the loss in value can be absorbed by taxpayers instead of your own pocket

That S3 does look familiar 8)

But you are saying that buying used is better, not directly, but by giving examples of how you could better (in your opinion) use the £30k and posting examples of such cars, pretty much is :poke:

As for the new S3 saloon looking like a jetta, well after a few beers we all start to look attractive don't we.

Buy the golf.
It's your life, it's your choice. What's wrong with having the first and the last something? Who says we have to make every decision based on common sense or fiscal return? If cars are your passion, follow it and never feel the need to justify it to anyone.
I'm really lucky in that my brand new fresh out of the box zed is completely free. I've got the sticker price invested properly and returning more than the monthly payments and filling it with gas every week.

I don,t expect anyone to justify anything , its a free world as is this forum , a place to exchange thoughts & views hopefully without offending .

I assume you are leasing your Z from the "completely free" statement ?
As for your "investment" implying a 10/15% return is a bold claim  do share the knowledge

The S3 saloon will be just as dull to drive and look at as it's hatchback brother.

Have you thought about the a-Class AMG? Just a thought. It's a bit dearer but by god is it quick and it's AWD too.

Afaik no ones been offended and I'm more than happy to "share the knowledge". Call Joslin Rhodes in Stockton on 01642 525511 and ask to speak to Neil Parker if you have 100k+ to invest. My portfolio is currently returning 14.7% (slightly down on last year) but as I'm planning on retiring at 55 (4 more years  ) they're in the process of transferring it into ISAs to make it more tax efficient. The deposit was generated over the preceding three months of delivery, and I'll make the balloon payment out of the next four years interest. So yes, I've got a free car 8)

so Gary, where's your thoughts now?

over the last week I have been thinking of a new car, I currently have a 2.0ltr diesel 140 break golf, I am 50/50 on the 1 series and another golf

You're not wrong on the dynamics, similar to the GTi, but as a daily drive with great traction in all weather (Quattro) and almost 300 BHP, it's only 0.3 secs slower to 62 but £8k cheaper.....but I know OG it's your Audiphobia :D

Hhmmmmmmmm , that is a decent return by any standard , , however that will fall once its in ISA,s
On your existing investment rates though you could purchase the car (£28k) outright with just 2 years return,s
Thanks for the contact number , currently have all our future tied up in bricks & mortar but if we do sell off some part then its good to have a personal recommendation & the return,s you quote are certainly tempting :)

Well... I went to see the face lifted E class coupe today. 37K

One word. Stunning.

If there was a car that beat all else in that area for class and style, this facelift E class is it.

I really don't like the styling on the new Mk7. I think the Mk6 was a really nice all-round shape.

Along with the Mk5

However I'm sure the Mk7 is such a better car in pretty much every way.

That would mean me not having something I reeally wanted for another two years and that ain't happening :P
I will warn you now, once Neil has it it's like it's his cash and he'll do his best to talk you out of any withdrawals  as for bricks, mine is going soon as ooop north I'll be lucky to make 1k a year keeping it as opposed to the 7k p.a. even after I take out 7k on a rental property.
Apologies if me and mr wilks are turning this into a thread hijack

Erm... Ignore me I'm rambling again
If it's a toss up between the golf or the merc, I would say go for the Benz as my dad had a soft spot for them but never scratched that itch. I've been in and out of sytners more times than I care to remember over an slk but went for a zed in the end.
And I can't resist new cars that's how I was up sold by 20k at coopers bmw when I went in for a face lift zed
