Vibra-Techniks engine mounts

Wow, terrible crack in that mount... Why did you decide to check these Beedub, was it because you were planning to mod the car at this point or did you notice a problem?

my car had been running well over 500hp for a while.... so i wanted to get the mounts sorted... had the car been stock i don't think this would have been an issue so early tbh.

What a monster, no wonder you considered this so early on and good thing you did... Had you not increased the performance, would you have considered the VT mounts as a preventative anyway?

Mine were showing signs of the rubber tearing when my mechanic did a visual inspection, he did not notice any fluids leaking so i'm not sure they're fluid filled. The tears were small so i said i'd leave it as is for a while longer (i'm already taking it real easy with the car) until i get the Vibratechs too.

Was going on this:

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-2157-e36-m3-e46-m3-e9x-m3-z3-z4-m-motor-mount-upgrade-for-non-m-e36e46.aspx

My e46 330d mounts certainly leaked before I changed them out, might be different on the M3/Z4m...

yeah its a beast!! lmao!! ermmmm..... yes and no, not at 10k miles, id do it at around 30k, obviously i can only speak for my car and the difference was huge.
heres a pics of my pride and joy :-)

A while back I saw a link on here to the Vibra-Techniks engine mounts as seen here;
http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufacturer_product.php?manufacturer=Vibra-Technics&category=engine&product=Mounts&make=BMW&model=Z4

Has anyone on here since fitted these to their M? With the nature of the oem mounts having the habit of shearing off I've been thinking about upgrading to these and wondered what the feedback was once fitted...

:driving:

I have them and are really pleased with this upgrade, see the thread for details;

Give them a visual inspection see what conditions they are in. Mines just done 60k and still look fine :thumbsup:

Come to think of it while they are showing signs on tearing, he showed them to me too, it didn't actually look to be through and through so maybe it just didn't reach the pocket of fluid!

I fitted the Vibra-Technics "Road" engine mounts last July after I'd experienced a few shift denials at The Ring. After fitting these engine mounts, I've previously written on this forum: "I did this mod as an attempt to improve the gear shifting but what I noticed most was the general effect that the engine mounts have had on the car's suspension and handling. I've already got the ACS Racing suspension and H&R ARBs but with the Vibra-Technics mounts, the suspension feels as though it's just been upgraded some more! The feel now is that the whole mass of the car is "as one" which makes the front suspension now feel like it has coilovers with linear springs. Because the engine doesn't move in the horizontal plane with the V-T mounts, when you turn, the engine stays put, so the car turns sharper than it does when centrifugal force pushes the engine mass to the outside, as it does with OEM engine mounts."

I've also since changed the gearbox oil to Amsoil and I've not had a denial since, but will only know for sure at The Ring in a couple of months whether this has been the permanent solution to the problem. In any event, it's definitely a worthwhile mod. :thumbsup:

I am now also a convert to these SUPERB engine mounts. Just had mine fitted whilst it was having an Inspection II carried out - car has done 63k miles and the standard mounts were feeling decidedly sloppy... :(

After fitting - WOW - what a difference! Gearshift is more positive, car turns in far sharper and the ride quality has gone up a notch (I am on standard springs and dampers)...

Just a tiny bit more NVH at idle (and I mean tiny) with no more noise into the cabin throughout the rev range - I went for the fast road mounts.

I can see this mod just being the start.... :evil:

Nice one! These are definitely on my to do list.

Do you know how many hours they charged to fit them?

Interested in the charge to fit as part of an inspection as well - is it a complex job ?

Also, can you inspect these at all from above, or (as I suspect) do you need to get under the car ? And does anyone have pics of where they are ?

(answers along the lines of 'they are under the engine you muppet' are acceptable, but not helpful :P )

It took me about 2 hours to fit the VT engine mounts, doing the job off the floor and it was the first time I'd done it.

You can see the OEM mounts if you look down both sides of the engine with a torch, and when removing the mounts you need to undo the nuts on them from above by using a very long extension(s) onto your socket wrench. You also need to remove the reinforcement plate from the front suspension under the car to gain access and to lift the engine. Definitely not a job for a beginner, but when you actually analyse the job, it's a relatively simple task of disassembly and reassembly and doesn't really require much technical know-how.

bang on basically.... i found this QUITE difficult as i was working on my back in my garage,..... not nice tbh...

of note i have the competition version of these mounts which are used in the e36 race series. definitely can feel more nvh, but even with the comp units its very very respectable imo and i can't only feel it at idle, the feel completely works wight he ethos and direction my car has taken over the years.

The chaps at SJR charged me an hours labour to do this - they have ramps of course making life a whole lot easier...

I was just being lazy and given that they already had the car in for service anyways... :P

As I said, I have the fast road version engine mounts - no noise or vibration difference at all apart from at idle and then you have to listen for it. The dynamics gains though are HUGE!

I want these, plus RTAB limiters and an alignment. Best get saving...
