Very very impressive - Z4M BtG under 7'40"

Don't think I have seen this posted here: a very very fast lap of the 'ring in a nearly standard Z4M - just tyres (Dunlop Direzzas), suspension (KW) and bushes apparently:

The clever youtube linky thingy didn't seem to be working, so here is a direct link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntvFFtBjY5E&feature=youtu.be

Blimey!

According to the overlaid video, it was doing about 150mph (239kph) at Schwedenkreuz and about 137mph (221kph) just before lifting/dabbing for Fuchrohre.

According to Harry's LapTimer, my best is about an 8:40 with 135mph at Schwedenkreuz and 120mph at the same place at Fuchsrohre (about 105mph at the Fuchsrohre itself)! Don't know if I could manage another minute off that even with stickier tyres and decent suspension.

I wouldn't want to buy that car after the way he was smacking the kerbs! For me, the bit that really shows how fast he's going is around the Karussell. 109km/hr = 67.7mph!

I obviously have a lot more mechanical sympathy as my log shows a max of about 50mph through the Karussel :P

Really need to get that GoPro bought in time for our spring trip next year - might even get a bit of Z4 on Z4 action if Mitchy tags along - although I've promised to keep my initial/guiding laps to about 12 minutes to let him learn the track a little

Unless it is very quiet 12 minute laps are a bit too slow to learn it in my view - you spend your whole time getting out of people's way. If you can get down to 10 minutes or thereabouts it all gets a lot easier, and you start to drive your own lap.

It will be his first visit (and he's in a 2.5si), so he just wants to sit behind me for a couple of laps - although I think I've only ever managed one lap greater than 12 minute lap (even in the pouring down rain) and that was when we stopped to pick up a biker who'd lost it at Aremberg

Maybe I'll start at 12 minutes, then 11, then 10 and then leave him to his own pace.

The Karussel is a nightmare in a car, so incredibly bumpy. Much easier on a bike.

Was that an MR or MC? Either way it was very impressive if all they've changed is tyres and suspension.

Just shows you what inherent ability there is lurking in that chassis and engine.

Balls of steel help too!

Of course it was a bit of a daft thing to say - assuming you are planning a follow my leader type approach you'll have to drive at whatever speed he is comfortable with. Never driven a 2.5si, but I've done a lot of laps in a 120i, that would easily do around 9'30".

I think your idea of 12-11-10 is a good one ... preferably on successive laps ... :D

Coupé ... of course ...

Yes, sort the suspension to get rid of all that pitching and lifting at the front end and upgrade the rubber and the car is certainly not short of power. Then, just add more bravery...

If you don't hug the right hand side of the track and drop in to the Karussel you can scuff your front bumper due to the banking of the corner.

I learned that the hard way.... :headbang:

Banged my splitter a couple of times in the old Fait Coupe. Third gear corner but struggled to keep it in the power band. Still 60-65 mph. Just don't pop out the top.

This car on the video has KW Competition 2 way suspension (custom tuned for me), powerflex bushings, Recaro Pole Position drivers seat(passenger seat is stock) and Endless brake pads. Other then that it is all standard with no chip no big brakes and all interior in.
With passenger, Kumho V70 semislicks,a bit dump track my last BTG was 7:41 with this car. I'm sure with fresh Direzza(on the video those Direzzas have about 60 laps on Nordschleife) this car is capable around 7:20.

Next year I'm planing to put a rollcage, shave extra 70-80 kg and do custom dyno tuning(+20 hp).

I've got another car E46 M3 with exact same suspension with no interior, roll cage and chip. With the same tires it was 8 seconds slower(driven same day as Z4M) then Z4M.

Those kW 2ways are working very well.... Love mine, How about some more pics of the car please !!! Incredible pic with the suspension loaded up like that.... Well done btw on the time , quite incredible when you see what else is in this region!!

In 30 years of performance bikes and cars have never heard it called that before !
