Very random enquiry

I have downloaded a copy of my cars service history as I only have the service book from when I brought the car, but no supporting invoices etc.

The servicing and dealer visits all seem to tally up with the service book, however there is one entry that is quite substantial that has nothing else to back it up with.

When the car was 2 years old and having covered almost 10k miles, there is an entry in the maintenance that just states repair, but the repair time was almost 19hours of Labour. Other than an engine replacement, what sort of repair do you think would carry this amount of hours with a BMW dealer? From what I can see it is a mechanical repair as there are no mentions of bodywork in any of the history, and the HPI report does not give cause to believe there has been any body damage to the car.

I know it is a bit of a how long is a bit of string question, but curious as to what repair would command so many hours in the workshop.

Cheers

Paul

Cam chain, tensioner, guides and oil pump drive plus crank sprockets ...close to what it took when I had mine swapped out in January...

Some guides failed haphazardly...you had the mk 1 cam chain assembly...

Just a guess..

Thanks for the reply mate. Although all speculation obviously without a supporting invoice, but if it was to be the chain etc, then this could only be a good thing for me I’m guessing? Would they have replaced it with the same problematic chain and guides, or an updated version?

You could always ring them & ask? :?
Rob

2015 they came out with a mk 2 version, different material used for guides an almost white colour rather than an oil coloured brown, plus different chain, much chunkier, technical term, plus new laser cut crank sprocket and a revised oil pump drive in the same style...you should be good for another 100k miles now providing you don’t overboost it with your remap...

I didn’t think they were allowed to issue any details relating to a previous owner?

You wouldn’t be asking for any details concerning the previous owner, just the work they carried out on the car?
The worst they can say is no

The remap seemed pretty standard really, so hopefully that should not give me too many issues, plus it is not a car that is going to cover big miles, and will be seriously over services now it is in my ownership. I have always changed oil and filter at least every 3-4 months with all of my cars in addition to standard service schedules being followed. For the sake of £70 or so every few months I see it as money well spent for the peace of mind it gives lol.

I will try ringing BMW on Monday and see if they are willing to give any details as to what the repair was for.

Cheers for your reply’s gents.

The only other big number items are the crank end float issue which is usually terminal for the engine or a big auto box issue which is very unlikely on this model..

You could always ignore it and just enjoy the car if it has no faults. Not all people get held up on a cars history. Some come with full, some with part or very little, it doesn't always mean a car hasn't been looked after.

When I bought an E91 a couple of years ago it had a full main agent history and both chains that had worked on it were happy to confirm what work had been done and when.

Which was a result because it turned out one of them had serviced it a few months before I bought it, but the book hadn't got stamped. So I took it in to them and got the stamp. :)

What a complete and utter waste of time and money. Absolutely no justification in this absurdity whatsoever. Peace of mind???? Get a grip.

Forget the remap, I'm more impressed with the 'rattle free' claim in his signature  . Would love to get me some of that life.

Couldn't agree more.

And there it is once again. Personal attacks and sarcasm off the back of a genuine post. I think I am starting to see how it works on here now.

:? :?
Who are you referring to? If it was my post, I am genuinely envious of anyone who has managed to get their convertible rattle-free, nothing sarcastic at all - I'd love to know the secret.

If it helps, I read your post as a humorous comment, exhibiting jealousy as your car is full of rattles. (In other words, a long-
winded way of saying "you lucky, lucky, bastard!")
I do not see how this could possibly be construed as a personal attack or sarcasm?

Maybe you've triggered that 'snowflake' warning symbol Smartbear mentioned in another post?

The way this was worded with the laughing face and the use of the word “claim” is an example. Basically implying I am talking s**t

A post from another user telling me to get a grip because I personally like to over maintain my vehicles.

And there is no secret to getting the vehicle rattle free. Use the information in here, set aside 2-3 days of time and think outside the box. The bolts and screws themselves create noise in the fittings, so I used a molycoat 111 product on them during assembly, along with felt, foam and tank rubber on close fitting parts. So far this has resulted in zero rattles with the roof up or down.
