V Belt

Hi

Anyone knows where can i order the V belt and Ac belt for a BMW z4 3.0 2004 plate -- E 85 ?

Eurocarparts only have a belt and i think it is the ac belt.

thanks a lot. i am trying to change this myself but i cannot find a good guide.

so when i change the V belt ( serpentine) and ac belt i also need to change the tensioner pulley , idle pulley and tensioner pulley from AC right?

Changing the tensioners is an item done at periodic services or major service dates, the belts are often changed more frequently so unless you know the history I would err on the side of changing all the tensioners when fitting new multi v belts as they only wear on the pulleys and rarely stretch.

Maybe someone with the TIS system can confirm , would but am only on my ipad and the service info is on my laptop at home.

After you have the belts off its easier to check the pulleys and pumps for wear or movement.

To change it you will need to remove the plastic cover off the bottom of the car and then pull the little plastic cover of the middle of the tensioner with a little flat headed screwdriver
Then get a t50 torx socket on a large ratchet and put it in the middle of the tensioner and push it clockwise to loosen it then just pull the belts off.
Fitting is just reverse just remember what way the belts go.

Ordered mine from ebay, oem quality belts nice and cheap.

I can link you up if you want.

Also, just get a diagram online by googling "z4 belt setup" or similar.

Usually i am doing all the servicing myself. I am trying to avoid garage work this time too.

So all the work can be done from underneath the car? The idle pulley and the tensioner is quite on the upper part. I think i need to remove the radiator cover as well. I dont think i can access the pulley from underneath the car ( only the AC one ). I will have a look again.

The car has 80 k miles now. i dont think anyone changed the belt or the tensioner till now.

The V belt has small cracks in it. Not to big but many cracks. I am using the car around 70 miles per day.

I wouldn't bulk at that price the belts are about £30 and the three tensioners and pulleys are in thre region of £180 so to pay £90 for the labour is cheap.

So exactly what pulley do i need to change?

Idle pulley
Tensioner Pulley from Drive belt
Tensioner pulley from Ac

The guy on the phone said there are 5 of them ( pulleys ). So which three should i change to be safe?

So should i change the entire tensioner mechanism or just the pulley ( wheel ) ???

Also the guy on the phone said the price of 300 includes only the pulleys not the entire mechanism from tensioner.

I dont understand. When you change the tensioner you change the entire mechanism or just the black wheel from the tensioner ( pulley) ?

Until I can get home (currently in hospital recovering from an operation) I can't see my service info, wait till one of the more technical guys get on line those who have access to the TIS will be able to help.

On the z4 it's easier to do from underneath due to the large plastic panel under the bonnet being I the way. I changed my belts at 56k all the pulleys and tensioners were fine. Will check them again around 80k if I still have it.

There's a diy on here http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=30051&p=407954#p407954

video will give you a similar vehicle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_sL9NLj5f8 there is more room in the the e85 view the video from about 4 mins

I did it. :)

It was a little weird because when i tried to put the new belt one ... even with the tensioner in the release mode it was hard to put the new belt on.The belt was the same size but i had to stretch it a little to fit under the last wheel and the i released the tensioner. I triple checked if the fitment of the belt is ok and all is good now.
