Using mine for a seventy mile daily commute. Only bought it just over a week ago and find it very comfortable on the motorway. Getting around 30mpg overall so costing about a 1/3 more to run than my old 2.2i....but well worth it.
If you get 30MPG from an M you ain't driving it properly!

I knew that was coming :D Only had it just over a week....give me time...I promise I'll get the MPG down lower!

Did use mine for my commute to work for a while but changed job so now a weekend/evening car. Great motorway cruiser with 30 MPG possible. I guess a louder exhaust is the only downside to relaxed cruising :)

Its cack in paved old town mixed with Peugoes and Citron oil burners. fvrench don't have much car culture and one of my coleagues got very suspecting looks from other office staff in his 2.2 convertible even though he does not get a company car like me. Ridiculoous you will find it but I keep my hidden. Mate in his Boxer is the same :( :o

This is France...

If I could I would drive it everyday (might even sleep with it in the bedroom  )

600-720 miles a week on average here and been doing this for the past 9 months :). BEfore that it was doing 350 or so miles a week through twisty country roads.

I echo what others say, the M has no problem at all with comuting. In fact it's more of a relaxed cruiser than an 3.0Si is, as they can be quite boomy. The M only sounds louder under hard acceleration so at 70-80mph it's pretty quiet really when crusing.

It's a reason why people should not fear high miles when purchasing. Mine does hardly any stop-start driving, hardly ever in busy cities and is always warmed up under low revs. My 600-720 miles a week at the moment are mostly done on the motorway, although I've started taking a more scenic driving road for the last 10 miles now the summer daylights hours are here :driving: . Motorway miles especially are very light on the mechanicals.
Bought mine on I think 6800 miles, now done 52,000 and only one rear spring replaced so far :). Great car!
Fuel can be costly but I like to think these cars have done quite a lot of their depression already so a high % of the running costs now will be fuel and servicing and repairs. In 10 or so years time even with 100k on them I wouldn't be surprised if they're still worth over £10k.

I'd like to retire mine off to being a second car at some point and use it for summers only but for now will continue to be used daily.

Some people think I'm mad using it daily for the milage I'm covering but IMO it's a mechnical object that does need to be used and I enjoy driving it. And driving 600 or so miles a week including a lot of motorway miles will probably mean it's do 200k miles EASILY before a rebuiild :).

omg..... i feel like abit of a waster, mine is 1 of three cars, its stored in my garage and gets used on the weekends, trackdays, and erm general car meetings/outings!! it would be a great everydayer but unfortunatly ive made mine completely unpractical for road use, great fun though.

Nothing wrong with that :), and you are at least taking it to trackdays - a natural home for an M. I can see why some people prefer more normal cars for day to day. I remember a few years ago when I had my Si and I test drove a Yaris for a member of my family. Getting back to the 3.0Si Coupe it felt like sitting in an F1 Car/ Missle and the sound was awesome. You appreciate that less when driving it everyday, it becomes normal albeit still of course highly enjoyable. The Yaris felt like drivng a Landrover Defender with a hairdryer for an engine :)

I've been using mine daily for the last 2 weeks because my Touareg is broken :(

Although it's perfectly up to the job,I haven't particularly enjoyed it because ive got a bit precious with it,low mileage and selective use being the norm.
I've put 1k miles on it this last fortnight so am now on 9700 miles!

I suppose the thing I dislike the most are the real bad /bumpy roads which I normally would avoid but when seeing customers you have little choice.

Be tucked up in the garage again soon I hope.

Coming up to a year of ownership, been using mine every day for my 65 mile round trip commute.

Don't use it much at the weekends as I have 2 kids.

I'm surprised at the amount of people who use the M as their daily driver, it's cool. Some people here do serious mileage too.

Everyday for me. 14mile round trip in town! It's a chore tbh!

It's uncomfy to the point of being annoying and avg 16-18mpg! It's a waste of a car as i barely go above 30mph!!

But hey, it looks good.

Everyday for me. i share it between X5 and M. I love the commute as its along back roads winding coutnry roads with a little traffic. Every moment of it is enjoyable.

No point buying a nice car and then spending half your time driving something else. I hate being precious about stuff. Cars should be used, and maximum pleasure extracted from them. I find the whole notion of a crappy car for commuting completely baffling. I love commuting :)

Exactly. It's a Z4, not a classic Ferrari... It's designed to be used every day and mines a daily too. All cars depreciate far too rapidly these days and IMO you might as well get maximum enjoyment out of it.

Spot on, you can buy a good Z4M for less than a new Mondeo. Good though they are they're not worth preserving in pristine, low mileage condition.

No car is worth preserving in pristine low mileage condition :)

If i had an immaculate classic Ferarri from 30 years ago with delivery miles on it worth as much as mu house I would still go and get the shopping in it.

Otherwise, what's the point of it?

Thanks for all the help guys... it's been a big help... the reason i put up this post in the first place was because i had my 2003 3.0l Z4 for sale and was thinking strongly of getting an M Coupe if it sold... The good news is... It sold today however the bad news is there is only one M Coupe for sale in the country... the car is immaculate but the owner is looking for too much for it... i would really like the car however i do need to be sensible... decision time :?
