I had mine hardwired like this. My understanding is they shouldn’t be hardwired to the battery for the reason you’ve raised. I had mine velcroed onto the top of the strut tower which allowed me to run the charger up the side of the wing/wheel so the bonnet could be fully locked and alarmed
That's really handy! Do you have any closeup pics of the terminals? Particularly interested in how you've connected to the positive terminal. Thanks!
Sorry, no pictures as I’ve sold that car but from memory on the positive terminal there’s a hole/slot and the CTEK extender has a circle terminal on it so I got and 8 or 10 mm bolt, washer and nut and connected via that. The red plastic cover still slips over the post. You can just see the bottom of the circular connector sticking out from the bottom of the red cover.
The negative is the same circular end and I used a bolt, again an 8 or 10 and screwed onto an earthing point on the bulkhead. There was enough thread left to do that without disturbing anything else
Pictures of the additional connector I bought, the one on the left is the additional one with a traffic light system to show battery condition and is fused, the one on the right is the standard one but there are others of different lengths. HTH
