I'm not sure these will appreciate at all. The E89 is unloved by the market and the used prices and dealer contributions available on all models reflect that. There's no provenance or reason for the 35iS to appreciate, even considering its relatively low volumes.
I don't think the M135i is any slower at all. If anything it might be a little quicker. I think it was Evo or PH that recorded a 0-100 in the mid 10's. I thought the standard 35iS was low 11's.
BMW are doing both an M235i and an M2, the latter of which will have an upgraded version of the M235i/M135i engine delivering 350+ BHP.
I suspect the current Z4 could be the last.

My 2 cents, if I were looking for an E89 again I'd definitely get a high spec 35i, no brainer mainly because I'm a lover of the manual gearbox. I can't understand for the life of me why more members don't get there 35i's chipped the gains are unreal. Yes the warranty thingy always crops up but YOLO 
If you save on the purchase price get a set of AR down pipes from across the pond and there's not much that could keep up seriously, 35 drivers have no idea what there capable of.

To be honest it's the exhaust note of the 35iS that is doing it for me. To be fair I haven't heard the 35i one yet. I really need to drive one, but for me the 35iS is all about the sound.
How does the 35i sound in comparison. Not much on youtube when it comes to stock 35i exhaust demos.
Also, is the sound on the 35is easy to simulate via 3rd party exhausts do you think?

It's not the fuel cost, they're the same to run as the 35i. 35iS came later and at quite a premium cost over the 35i hence the lower volumes IMHO

As he quite often is I think maniac is right on this , the premium for an 'is' is very high and unless you are completely bonkers (yes thats me) you are never going to pay it

Quad is right on that... prices for these cars at any engine level are heavily discounted now... which may mean in the future there are more iS up for grabs. Back when the iS was at a premium though it sold very low numbers and hence why there aren't too many on the market yet is my belief...
It all depends on whether you want a 'degree' of exclusivity which is what you will get with the IS. For me I bought a nearly new 35i saved some £ and decided to add a few bits (ESS Tune, Induction, Eibach's, Spacers and Downpipes) as I wanted to create a more performance orientated E89. Exhaust note wise a tuned 35i even on a daily mapping will drown out an IS without the need for a 3rd party exhaust. You can easily source higher quality components as bolt on's than the IS has as stock. Depends how you want to spend your money. To me the IS means BMW have applied 'comfortable' tweaks to what is already a very good car.
