URGENT Z4 Search

Hi everyone. I have a request for anyone who can help. It's a long shot but here we go. This is a photo of my dad's BMW Z4. He died 10 years ago and my mum sold the car around 2016. Im on the search for the current owner so I can see the car again and talk to the owner. It says car has not had mot in 2 years and hasn't been taxed for that long either. I'm thinking it could be just sitting in someones garage or drive. Last owner is believed to be in Wimbledon UK!

REG - LD56 VUU 2006 MODEL ( PHOTO ATTACHED)

PLEASE share and help me find the owner. Would mean a lot to see this car again and talk to the owner It's the last thing I've got connecting me to my dad and I don't want to lose that. (Hope this is ok admin) Thank you everyone

It has not been written off so there is a chance it is still around. There is also a UK Z4 Facebook page you may want to join. Good luck with your search

When I wanted to track down previous owners of my lotus, I wrote to DVLA and they responded. You might try that route explain your situation and they may respond.

Have you tried a BMW dealer? They won't give you any personal details of the current owner because of data protection but if you go in person and get someone helpful they might be willing to look up what records they have on their systems of it visiting BMW dealers. Whether they would also pass your details to the current owner (if they know who it is) I have no idea, but it's worth a shot. If your dad used a BMW dealer, I would try that one.

If its now on a private plate that could explain the gap in the MOT history. It also means it'll be far harder to trace it!

Someone on here managed to track down and buy the Phoenix Yellow Coupe they had sold years previously, so you never know. Good luck anyway.

It might be worth putting something on ZRoadster.org as well.

Hello mate.
I’m the chap who traced down their old car as per the above post.
I got lucky when another forum member mentioned that they had seen my car a few years previously and the owner said they lived in ‘somewhere’. I joined a FB classified page for ‘somewhere’ and put up a wanted ad with a picture of my car from when I owned it.
Mine had been without MoT for three years, so I was hoping it was parked on a driveway and someone might recognise it, which they did, and I was able to contact the owner.
This approach ‘might’ work if you posted a Wanted ad in the Wimbledon area.
Unfortunately if the ref has been changed, you’ll be knackered.
I doubt the DVLA will help, likewise BMW (I tried my dealership and was told to jog on).
I’m lucky in that my car was a really daft colour and rare, so fairly easy to identify, but also much more rare, so more of a challenge.
I wouldn’t condone anything illegal of course, it’s not worth it.
If I can help, let me know.
Forums and FB are by far away the best places to try to find them though, along with searching eBay, Autotrader, Pistonheads etc on a regular basis.
It took me a few years to find my old car and I was able to buy it back (think I scared the owner), but so glad I did.
Good luck,
Mark

Hi mark, thank you for your message. I really appreciate it. Still no luck up until now but I'm not giving up. I will try the wanted ad and see where that gets me
As you said, DVLA and dealerships have been useless! Thanks again!

It was a manual 2006. I'm not too sure if they were sports seats. The whole of the interior is cream. Cream seats and cream dash. It's quite a unique interior. I appreciate any help. Thank you

Definitely sports seats in that photo.

The last V5 was applied for in March 2016, so possibly the same person your mother sold it to in 2016, so likely still in Wimbledon.

That's very useful. OP can now ask on local FB pages

Is it just me or does this not sit right with anyone else?

I get the sentimental factor, but you are essentially trying to track someone down who may not take kindly to you doing so.

If a previous owner of one of my cars turned up on my doorstep I'd be inclined to call the police..

Who says I'm turning up on anyone's doorstep? I said in my description that I would like to talk to the owner. If the owner wasn't comfortable then I would leave him / her alone

Really? :( How strange I would be flattered.
