Thanks for all your comments and words of encouragement....I'll know today what the score is and go from there. If I have to stay another night in this piss pot hotel, I'll do a Whitney believe me......

Just know that if you do a Whitney we'll always love you Nick ;-)

Oh Dear God...

Well I had a call from the dealer, they found nothing wrong with the car. They did a 50KM road test an d all ok!! I had to pay 55 euro for the diagnostic. I called Tom and arranged to meet up with them later today!! Hurrah!!

But then, I drive the car 20 metres and the warning light and reduced power came on again. After 30 calls back to UK, they are going to fix a charger in the engine which works alongside the exhaust blah blah blah. BMW are going to fly me back to the UK, Gatwick, and I will get a rental car there. My car will be re patrioated in about a month!! The dealer said I could drive it back at reduced power but not taking a chance on that. As I walk out the dealer they said they need my credit card. I said what for! Apparently BMW Europe only gives 2 years warranty and my car is now out of warranty. It took a further hour to sort that BMW UK would back up the warranty.

And they wouldn't refund my 55 euro either!!

What a great day!! Haha I'm actually crying not laughing!!!

 A month to get your car back :x

At least BMW UK are going to back the warranty, but 1 month to get your car back.... Speechless

They just told me if BMW don't back the warranty in Germany, they will have the car bought back to the UK for the warranty work.

Could be the turbo, as the warning light only comes on when I give it some welly....but let's see. My flight leaves today at 6.40pm, rental car from Enterprise when I get back.....still wish I was heading to Austria but not in a Volvo. I didn't tell you but they offered me a Panamera over here while my car was being fixed. But the rental company wanted a 10K euro authorisation against my card and only 100 miles a day allowance....so that was a no go!!

I believe it is....

Anyway home bound now, feel pretty crao leaving my lovely car here, but I wouldn't want to make it worse by driving it back 600 miles....

:(

Turbo is kompressor in German though...

Does kompressor mean supercharger in English?

So Mercs with kompressor on the back are supercharged, not turbo charged ? You learn something new every day :)

I'm back and was called at the airport by breakdown, that BMW Germany will not do repairs under warranty so car has to come back here for the work to be done. Have got a diesel 3 series courtesy car. Basic as they come but it's ok.

Surely it would make most sense for BMW Germany to do the work and be reimbursed by BMW UK? Bloody beancounters...

UK warranty is dealer warranty. BMW warranty is only 2 years. Think they would have a battle to get the money back from the UK.

Exactly right PVR....that's the reason hy it's coming back.....still glad I didn't drive it back....I'd sill be driving 8 hours on!!

That's my point though. Cheaper to pay BMW Germany to do the work and pay Nick's airfare back than paying for shipping the car all the way to the UK and then repair it locally. Maybe not. Just my 10c :tumbleweed:

The issue would be that the dealer in Germany would charge commercial standard rates as the car is out of warranty. BMW UK would not pay them full rate.

So if BMW UK pays for it, BMW GmBh would pay them back but would not pay them the German rates.

It would be interesting to know what they're going to pay to repatriate the car. I bet it's a damned sight more than the £200 or so that Nick's airfare would cost.

I've seen this problem before, not in my Zed fortunately in a car I used to run on super unleaded & on a couple of occasions fed it on supermarket bio fuel basic.

First time the engine light came on gave me a heart attack, almost. Local mechanic said it was the car that had almost got used to the good stuff & the ECU detected there was something wrong as producing less power. He also said if you're unlucky enough to fill up with low RON fuel at a garage where there tanks are near empty, you risk getting the grime & possibly a higher water mix... all which your ultimate driving machine will really not like if used to jet fuel.

Best of luck & fingers crossed it's just a simple drain & refuel...
