Urgent request for help - Brake calliper Mounting Bracket

I've had an awful day today

I was looking forward to changing the discs and pads and painting the callipers and calliper carrier brackets. Firstly it took me hours to remove the front wheels, literally 2 hours! they were so siezed on and having had the refurbished last year I was trying to be careful not to damage them although I have damaged the powder coat on the rear of a few spokes :-(

Secondaly the calliper pins on the front right were ridiculously tight to undo and the brake disc itself was seized on solid (more time lost).

Anyway after painting the callipers and brackets I tried to reassemble the front right calliper with new pads. Got everything to line up ok, but when I tried to fit the calliper pins I noticed the resistance was very high on both top and bottom. I backed off, took the bracket off and 50% of the threads are all chewed up, I was beign careful so I would be surprised if I cross threaded it.

So does anyone know the part number or best place to find a second hand front right calliper bracket? Looking like I will not be able to get to work next week at the moment....

Hi, its for a Z4 coupe 3.0 si

I've left the car in the garage I was borrowing on axle stands (its my brother in laws garage). He is going to see if its salvagable by using a tap to clean the threads.

But in the interim I need to try and source a replacement carrier just in case.

I hope so, as the search on ebay for E46 330i carriers has drawn a blank and I dont fancy paying dealer prices!

I feel so deflated... tried following best practice bought all the right tools etc but I guess I am the one at fault and clealry did something wrong. Don't think I will bother doing any DIY work on the car again its mroe trouble than its worth!

We have all been there and felt like this! Chin up hope it gets fixed

If all else fails I can probably find out the thread and send you a tap. It's not a standard thread I think it's m14 x 1.5 pitch. Very worst case you will have to go up a size maybe to a imperial thread and different bolts. Don't panic yet buddy!

I will have a look into various options on bolt size if tapping dose not work

Thanks Machine Monkey,

Just been one of those days, started with good intentions and everyting i've tried has gone to pot. And now I am faced with no car all week so will have to figure out how to get to and from work.

Regards

It suck mate don't give up on DIY work buddy. Some times it goes well

I can get some bolts and a tap sent out Monday if it's needed buddy

Thanks for your help.

I have to go to a wedding this evening :-S so can do no more today. Will see what Brother in law says.

Is it ok if I PM you if it turns out the existing thread is not salvageable? Oh btw its the caliper guide bolt threads that have gone so I'm not sure that its as easy as jumping up to a bigger size :headbang:

Yes PM me and take some pictures. Your right if it's those I thought it was the bolts that hold the calliper on?

Have fun at the wedding

Its the pins that secure the caliper to the carrier. They were ridiculously stiff to get off and I half wonder if they were cross threaded by the previous installer.

I did see this, but when I checked on realOEM it looks like a different part number?

Can anyone confirm whether E90 brakes (3.0/ 3.0d) are the same as a z4 coupe? I have been looking at E46 and found nothing on Ebay but have emailed a few breakers on Gum Tree.

Not looking good on the tap option. Brother in law says its something like a 9mm x 1.5 thread? he has no taps to suit or helicoils.

Thanks Mm, much appreciated.

Because of the timescales being short (as I need my car for work), I think I have found a chap breaking a 330D M sport in Leicster (a bit of a treck but worth it). he wants £30, it's a small price to pay if it sorts me out.

Just wanted to check, can anyone confirm that I am right in thinking that the Brakes and subsequently the carriers on an Msport 330D (E46) will be the same as that on a Z4 coupe?

RealOEM has this for the Z4 coupe: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=DU52&mospid=49421&btnr=34_1282&hg=34&fg=05
With the part no. being 34106765880

For the E46 330D (not sure on the year): RealOEM has the following: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=AL92&mospid=47642&btnr=34_0757&hg=34&fg=05
wth the part no. 34106765880

So if this is accurate I should be ok!
