Upgraded 6 Speed Gear Knob

New to this, but just bought a z4 and looking for a weighted gear shifter, looking for 6 speed. Would consider the sport version too!

Thanks in advance

Welcome aboard.

Here's a link to a ZHP one for sale:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184878515679#:~:text=eBay%20item%20number%3A-,184878515679,-Last%20updated%20on

It's a bit shorter than the OE facelift one and a fair bit heavier. I've had one on both my last two Z4s and it is a definite improvement, but you need to find a genuine BWW one with that Part Number as there are a lot of cheaper ones that may look the same but don't have the weight.

Alternatively call Cotswold BMW or Sopers of Lincoln for a price as they give a discount if you mention the forum.

It is, but costs twice as much!

And if you don't have an M you need to create a power source for the illumination and then deal with getting the leather gaiter to fit. Which I really need to get around to.

Thanks very much Mr Tidy. Had a look and was hoping to maybe pick up a second hand one for a little cheaper so will keep an eye out. I have seen one on eBay but you can never be sure if it’s genuine 😂

Mines for sale on the ZRoadster forum

As you say lots of fakes being sold on eBay unfortunately.

But worth it (biased)!

I think I took the feed from the ashtray illumination, I didn't need it as I replaced the solid insert. If you add some Tyco (OEM) connectors it's possible to make it easily reversible.
The leather has never been a perfect fit for me, but someone with more talent could make it perfect I'm sure.

So does the F10 fit the z4m and is heavier than standard one

The F10 one will fit and definitely feels a bit heavier, but I can't really weigh it because it comes with the gaiter and the surround for the M5 attached.

So fitting it requires some surgery as detailed in this thread I found:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66074

I suppose an easier option would be to cut the gaiter off the back of the knob, but it's softer leather than the standard Z4 one so I'm still trying to decide what to do! :?

Is the illumination connector the same?

I'll have a look at them both tomorrow in the daylight and let you know.

I had to attach my own, can't remember what the stock one was and obviously didn't have an original illumination feed to the gearknob on my non-M.

So I dug them both out today and the F10 version seems to be about 10mm shorter than the Z4M version, but more importantly about 60g heavier.

Terrible photo, but the connector looks identical on both.

But as I said earlier the F10 version comes fitted with the gaiter and F10 surround so you need to deal with that, and it cost me just over £150 from Cotswold BMW last year. But they said they'd had loads of orders from E46 M3 owners recently so it seems popular.

If you want to go Carlos Fandango the part number for the F10 one is B25.11.2.284.205.

But getting back on track the ZHP is so much better than the OE fitting, so I'm using the non-illuminated ZHP on my car instead of the standard illuminated one.
