Upgrade from Z4M .. impossible?

TTRS is more of a sideways move rather than an upgrade though.

+1 Not worth the extra money and looks sh#t IMO

Plus It's not realy faster than an ///M either and won't do dounuts, which is important when your bored on a wet road. :D

I think the TTRS is a great looking car. Not driven one so can't comment on the dynamics of the drive.

Calling it a sideways move is a bit harsh though, 0-60 in 4.2 is quite noticeably quicker than the ///M. Personally I wouldn't go for it as I'm an NA fan and the best thing about it is the S-Tronic gearbox and I'm also still a manual fan.

I'd imagine the TTRS would have its wicked way with the ///M around a track? 4wd....30% more torque etc.

You are probably right ..

but a 1M still bests it and looks better IMHO.

You can still do donuts in 4 wheel drive, not that I've ever tried

meh 1m is a great car but looks like a childs toy.

again not a huge upgrade, just the modern version of the M

Not driven one, have driven several other fast 4x4 Audis up to 570bhp. Never driven a good one. So yep I'm bias against, by my experience, without having driven one. Classic case of 0-60 for the press pack. They’re pretty even on track. In the wet the 4x4 would trounce the RWD, but then I don't drive my Zed in the rain unless I'm caught out.

Now the R8 v10 spider, my kind of heaven, but more than 10k extra required for one of those and there's the DB9 sitting there in that price bracket, totally different kind of car, with its own set of flaws, but to die for, IMO, at that Money.

Put in a search on pistonheads for less than 4 secs 0-60 mph at less than 40 k , not for me but thats a lot of performance for the money.

Very good shout! Not crazy about the look of it but the electronic wizardry that has gone into that is just crazy. Neck snappingly fast acceleration  Will hold its value well I'd imagine too

Ah, I love the 1M, again haven't driven it, but also haven't heard anybody slag if off after driving it.

Also, seeing as it beat a Cayman R in an Evo test I'd say it's more than a sideways step (even if outright speed is).

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/276505/bmw_1series_m_coupe_v_porsche_cayman_r_audi_tt_rs_nissan_370z.html

Sadly, it's more than a £10k upgrade....closer to a £20-25k upgrade.

Not sure it's a like for like upgrade over the Z4M, but I'd love to own one in the future.

I think the TTRS IS a sideways move. Similar weight, similar power, same sector, similar purchase price from new, similar production volume etc etc.

The car isn't a deal quicker than the 4M's either. It's quicker 0-30 and maintains that gap to 60 but by 100 there isn't a lot in it and it is actually slightly slower to 120 than the 4M's before recovering to record identical 0-130 and 0-140 times. It's more flexible in the gears because of the torque but it's fastest time in each 20mph increment is about the same as the 4M's or slightly worse as you approach three figures.

However you can of course remap them relatively cheaply. But then you aren't comparing apples with apples.

I also think the 1M is a sideways move, regardless of their lofty second-hand value. It's all about power to weight ratio for me.

If I do opt for an Exige S next, that has similar power to the ZM's but it's 300kg lighter. That means my power-to-weight rockets and there are precious few cars with similar PTW ratios available at a modest £10k uplift to our 4M's.

I haven't read all the suggestions but surely someone else is thinking 996 turbo with the factory engine upgrade , for 10k over a z4m you could probably insure and service it as well !

Don't get me wrong - i can't help but admire the 1M - EVERY review loves it. I just think it looks a bit average, and it's a turbo engine :(

The 996 is a pretty ancient design though right? Starting to look old, and the interior is generations behind the Z4. I know the 996 Turbo engine is meant to be a proper peach though (PSE sounds incredible).

Also - is it wrong to want an E46 M3 when you already have a z4m?!

They're just such a good looking car...

and my all time favourite m3..

I reckon that'd be a better investment of the +£10k budget :D

It is a bit of a dinosaur but take a ride in one if the opportunity ever comes up , I was most impressed and they will probably have bottomed out price wise now , still out of my price range though , I'm a cash payer only !

That's fair enough.

I think it depends on what you want out of a car. For me, I don't track the Z4M, so to get a car that is significantly quicker for public roads is pretty pointless imo, all it does it limit the amount of time that I have to play with the loud pedal.

As such, I'd want a car that is an enjoyable dynamic drive, which is still quick enough to give a bit of a kick. For the 1M to beat a Cayman R in an Evo group test shows exactly how good of a drivers car it is.

I've been giving serious consideration to getting in an E30 M3 for my next car for some time now (just need to keep saving).

To resurrect my own old thread - newer gen C63's are now coming in at under 40k

though still waiting on these to drop in price :D http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/mercedes-benz/amg/mercedes-clk63-amg-black-series-2008/2648188

Do normal people drive those cars Jimmy? The few I have seen have all been driven by a specific cross section of society ...

I ponder the same dilemma with the z4m Roadster. Where would i go next without spending over 10k for a upgrade? 10k on a Boxster would just be a side ways move and 911 vert are more money...
