I’ve got connected drive with map updates now only until the end Aug 2019
The download into BMW Download Manager (mandatory) takes hours on my 16mbps connection. A 32Gb usb was formatted Fat 32 and the 24Gb of files transferred onto it.
The stick was put into the glove box socket but the system could no see it. The Guru at the Dealers also tried.
I hope you have more success than me - I would appreciated it if you could let me know how it goes with your updates please
Current maps are 2019 - 2
Ps - Talk of 3rd party maps on the Forum ist Verboten! - Klar
Hi, I may have a solution for you and not for one minute are there any gurus at a dealership in my opinion. Agreed they may be a bit more knowledgable than most people as they mainly work with the same brand. Occasionally you may find someone with proper knowledge but generally in my opinion they just follow instructions as you would. An independant specialist will probably be more knowledgable. I am going off on a tangent now but a colleague of mine took his car to a dealership for an instrument panel issue and was told it was impossible to do/change and was factory set. He brought it to me and with my diagnostics kit for that particular brand, I sorted it and I've never owned the make of his vehhicle he has, just saying......(knowledge is power)
Right, here goes.
I am fairly new to BMW and I have a lot of technical knowledge with respect to electronics etc. I put a USB stick with a lot of music in the glovebox USB port and the system did not recognise it? My USB drive has a flashing light that flashes when data is being read or written and stops when the system has finshed doing whatever it was doing. I left it for 5 miinutes or more until the light stopped flashing and then the system recognised it and allowed me to transfer the contents to the internal HDD (Jukebox) of my system. What I am thinking is that the map data is approx 23gb ish i believe and that the system reads all the data first before it acknowledges that there is a drive plugged in that it knows it can deal with, and this is going to take some time.
Try the USB drive again and wait 5 or 10 minutes to be sure, take a drive somewhere because if your system is like mine it turns itself off after 5 minutes or more when the engine is not running. Probably thinks its been left on and is saving battery power? Took me a while to copy my music onto the HDD and had to keep starting the car so it didn't switch off. The system appears slow at reading large amounts of data. Less than 2gb was absolutely fine.
I am still waiting for my car to appear in my ConnectedDrive account so I can purchase the new map 2019-2 I believe?
I have read somewhere the system requires some sort of generated code? I believe this may be done automatically if the map is downoaded for the car listed in ConnectedDrive?
Steve.
