ULEZ

Just had a letter through the door saying our 2011 123d coupe isn’t compliant with the ULEZ. This would usually be a problem but we no longer live in the South so we can continue to enjoy this car. Can someone explain to me why this is the case. Is it because it’s Diesel and of a certain age or based on emissions as I really don’t understand.

Matty_Z4, my wife has just checked her Ford Focus CC 2.0 petrol and it is okay. Don't know what Euro it is though. Is your wife's car diesel as these need to be newer to pass okay?

There is no Mrs Z4, I just picked Mrs Jones as a generic name as I read too many rubbish news papers with nothing articles like this one. And they always seem to have similar cars.

They probably are diesel cars but the articles are generally nothing articles that lack details intended to cause a stir. They probably are diesel cars as the government seems to have a big war on them at the moment after pushing them for such a long time.

It's to do with the fact that it's a diesel, I think it would need to be newer than September 2015 to comply.

I had a 123d until I got my first Z4 - they're great little cars.

Trouble is that while they are Euro IV diesels need to be Euro VI to comply with the ULEZ whereas petrols only need to be Euro IV. I think the difference isn't related to CO2 emissions but the particulates that diesels produce.

Not quite sure what the difference is bit I'm sure the ulez system is based on not emissions and not co2.
The whole thing across the country is a joke. People will be selling/trading perfectly good cars to replace it with something that's ulez compliant (for now until they move the goalposts) and spending money they may not have.
And if what I have read is to be believed it is not a £12.50 daily charge for entering the zone, its only that if you register in advance and pay within 3 days. It can be as much as £160 if you enter the zone and don't pay within 2 weeks.

Well the LEZ scheme was launched in Glasgow on the 1st June... of the 1,615 vehicles owned by Glasgow City council, 616 are non-compliant meaning they are no longer allowed inside the council's new LEZ. You would think they would of checked, so replacement compliant vehicles will need to be leased / bought and who picks up the bill.

This is local Govt; of course they wouldn't!

I read on another forum about a charity who deliver food to homeless, deprived and vulnerable people in Glasgow. Their vehicles are non-compliant so have had to cease their deliveries. They asked the Council for a temporary 'stay of execution' but the Council refused. You can't beat a bit of bureaucracy. :(

They will just make them exempt.
I'm sure I have read that there will be various types of vehicle exempt and local residents will be given longer to comply.
