UK Mail = Shoddy Service Part 2

Thought I would share my experience of UK Mail which I have to say are pretty naff as a delivery service and my first time of receiving post from them. British Gas used them to post a new Hive Thermostat out to me but I think they need to change who they use lol.

I received a text message from UK Mail on Thursday morning to say they were delivering that morning which was no good to me as I was at work. No problem I thought they will be like DPD where you can change your delivery time mid delivery. Logged onto the UK mail website and nope there was no option to change the delivery time during delivery day. I called their customer services but said they had no contact with the delivery drivers or the local depot so I left it at that.

Arrived home after work and sure enough a calling card had been left but with nothing on it from the delivery driver so had no idea if it had been left with a neighbour or had gone back to the depot. Logged back onto the UK Mail website and it just said on the website delivery failed. I then had the option on the website to select another delivery day excluding Saturday or to collect from my local depot the following day so chose the depot option but there is a proviso if you don't collect the next day the parcel is sent back to the sender. Friday morning I received a text again saying my parcel would be delivered between 11.30am and 12.30 huh :? no good as I was at work again and I had selected on the website the day before to collect from the depot. I waited until 1pm and logged onto their website again to see if the parcel had been delivered but it just said status delayed. What the hell does that mean :? This I found out after some Googling means the message on the website is delayed and not the delivery lol. So now I had no idea on the parcels whereabouts bearing in mind if I didn't collect from the depot that day it would be sent back to the sender so decided to head to the depot at 3pm which was a fare drive out of my way. Oh and the depots don't have a contact phone number which is very helpful. Arrived at the depot and was told the parcel was still on the van with the excuse the driver had forgotten to take it off that morning and said I could wait until 5pm when he came back to the depot, yes I was going to wait 2 hours in a depot  . I asked as the driver was still out delivering then cant he deliver and leave with a neighbour but they wouldn't do that, then after all of that the Brain of Britain on the counter said they did do a Saturday Delivery :headbang: Why didn't he say that to begin with or have it as an option on their website to save all the messing about.

Compared to DPD or even Royal Mail they are pretty atrocious and not having contact numbers for your local depot is beyond me, would have saved a wasted journey, even worse not putting a Saturday delivery as an option is poor too when choosing a redelivery time :( Good job they don't deliver body parts for hospitals :)

Rant over.

Heaven forbid you ever have anything delivered by MyHermes. They are shocking! Not only do you not know when they are going to deliver. Even if asked to deliver on a certain day they still do it when they please.

As the parcels are left with the delivery agents as soon as they get them they set out to deliver them, great if your in.....not so great if your out. I arrived home to find around £200 worth of products from Holland and Barrett outside my front door and a card behind the door telling me that's where it was in case I missed the two large boxes I had to move to get in.

My sister was recently away on holiday, I went to check on the house and noticed a card through the door, parcel left behind plant. Basically the driver left it just to the side of the door, you couldn't see it from the direction I came from but it was on full view the other way. None of the neighbours had even thought to take it in knowing that they were away on holiday.

Absolutely shocking company And still many private sellers and large companies use them to deliver their goods.

I think its simply a case of quantity over quality of service as with alot of large scale companies these days. Yodal were used to courier out the Tower of London Poppies and I received 3 lots which were all smashed in the boxes :(

I feel your pain with the redelivery service provided. I would never opt for redelivery with RM again, I always have to make the time and go and pick up from the depot. It is a terrible service, and yup the customer call centre is a waste of time.

Tim, I feel your pain with UK Mail, there was a C4 dispatches programme a couple of years ago on them, ironically it was based upon my local sorting office, unfortunately I had posted 3 large parcels of a single consignment with them just before the dispatches programme aired, despite the fact they were collected together & were going to the same place they managed to lose one of them, dimensions were approx. 3' x 2' & 8" deep - how do you lose something that big!!

Thanks Tony, I did some Googling on UK Mail and they don't fare great with customers. Unfortunately I didn't have much choice as the sender used them although I may have a moan to British Gas to consider who they use as a carrier.

I've used DPD alot lately and they appear alot more on the ball and more customer focussed.

My poster seller had to send out a second one as the first one was destroyed in its solid tube. No idea how they can bend a poster tube but they managed it ....

Well there is now a Part 2
Received a text message from UK Mail early Wednesday morning to say I was to expect a delivery between 4.30pm and 5.30, great I thought I will be home this time so not a problem. 10am I get a call on my mobile from the delivery driver to say hes at the house lol and whether he can leave the parcel with a neighbour :headbang: I know the neighbour wouldn't be in so I said just leave it by the back gate, but he replied he wouldn't as he said it looks like a computer lol I replied it wasn't but he was adamant. Arrived home after work and he'd left the parcel 5 doors away lol and the box was about the size of a bag of sugar so unsure why he thought it was a computer :?

I'm just glad now I'm not expecting any further deliveries from this company.

UK Mail are utterly useless. I've had no joy complaining to their Customer Services when I've had a problem, so I always make a point of informing the vendor that I will not purchase anything from in the future them as long as they use UK Mail for their deliveries. Several companies have been concerned enough to contact me by email or phone to request further information and have intimated that they will recommend changing delivery companies. Of course, the cynic in me knows they're simply humouring me to keep my business!

The two deliveries I've had were form British Gas so I might have a moan to them. It appears to me that IK Mails computer system seems to be at fault or is not uptated accordingly so you receive delivery texts that are completely wrong and when you try to track the parcel via their online site it looks like the delivery driver doesn't update it so you are non the wiser, its just frustrating when you are working and relying on such information to be accurate. Compared to a few deliveries I've had recently from John Lewis who use DPD they have been excellent especially when notifying you of your hour delivery slot and tracking the parcel on the online mapping so you know exactly how far away the driver is what delivery number hes on.
