hi , what is the concensus on best tyres for the m coupe, i have contisports on , they seem fine but some forum posts slate them, any reason , what are theyre bad / good points, thanks

I have this dilema too,as alot of people appear to stick with the conti m3's and swear by them..though i am not so sure/i have always favoured Vredesteins,on my 3.0i,but not sure how they would be on the m,as they(vrdstn ultrac sessantas) are a very "sensitive" tyre.

mmm,choices,choices :?

Hi Adam,hows things?

Never been a fan of Michelins either,in the wet and for mileage/wear.....same as with Bridgestones,Goodyrs,etc..find the Vrdstns very very good all round,on various cars;
but have read some poor write-ups when ftd to z4m's or m3's,etc ,ppl saying they are too twitchy??..which is why i guess bmw/m division get tyres made specifically for theses cars/just not something i have ever "bought into",so to speak.

Luckily mine will be ok till next spring-ish. :)

For 'best' i reckon Michelin Pilot Super Sports would be hard to beat

I have these fitted and am loving them - about 5000 miles in and only good things to say.

Problem I'm finding is the new super tyres such as the conti 5P and PSS don't come the the stock sizes and loadings.

Well, the stock loading is for a slightly heavier M3, so the tyres you get on a Z4 are not designed specifically for it.

The extra loading factor is fine as long as it doesn't go below the minimum BMW specify.

I've had my PSS's on since last August, used them all over the winter, through all the rain we've had, and have done over 15k on them (including 2 x 3 day 'Ring trips - including a very wet one) and they've still got about 5mm of tread left.

I'd consider them the best (road) tyre I've ever used - and in some magazine tests the Conti 5P or Goodyear F1A-2 has beaten it in some areas (aquaplaning, wet grip, wet braking).

However, as you've said those three tyres are not available in the standard sizes for front/rear, but I (and others on here) have had no problems running the 265/40r18 Michelin PSS on the rear and the front is available in our size. Our rear size is available over the pond, and I've asked Michelin if/when we're getting it, but they seem to be ignoring my question.

What pressures are you running them at?

Super sports are also £1200 Vreds are £720 (well what I paid fitted) and all the hype on here went with them. TBH as I've said in other threads, the ride and handling is better than my 18s on MPS.

No doubt the MSS are the best tyre you can buy, but I wanted to try the Vreds. And also I bought my CSLs too so I though £1600 was enough lol.

Shouldn't be anywhere near £1200 now, as Camskill have the rears for £213 and the fronts for £203 - so £832 for a set (plus £5-£10/corner fitting at your local fitter) - which is cheaper than the PS2s were, possibly down to the almost 15% increase in the £:€ rate.
