Had an E85 and ditched the runflats - much improved in all areas
Got an E89 and find runflats do the business.

I dont know why the change - but I'm happy to stick with them on this car.

Replaced 17" Bridgestone runflats with 18" Conti Sport Contacts. Tyre noise is gone, I can enjoy the exhaust. The tyres are very firm, but in a way that results in a perfect feel, not crashiness. Maybe it's a bit of an exaggeration, but now I'm confident that 19" normal tyres would be less crashy than 17" runflats.

Im currentmy using bridgestone potenzas s001 18"non run flat - wow, they really grip - compared to potenza re050a they have a lot grip while still cold, and the car is far less tailhappy.
Didnt have a chance to try them overheated yet - 050a were gaining grip while heated - just in the condition you wouldve said that they are overhated they were starting to get monstrous grip - never tried any other tire that would be like that. Maybe I'll get a chance to overheat s001's somewhere on the track, then I'll report back :)

Bridgestone RFT's gone and Vredstein Ultra Vortis fitted, Like all other comments difference is night and day.

The z's my 4th beemer but the one i'm noticing the pain of RFT's the most with (previous 3 weer all 2l diesel 3 series).

Will be replacing for normal tyres as and when the tread's bare.

Not a z4 owner yet but my if my experience with E90 helpful at all, then:

Bridgestone 16in run flats / felt worse than 17in Michelin PS2 non-runflats
Conti Sport 2s 17i run flats / felt worse than 18in Michelin PS2 RUNFLATS

My conclusion is from 2008-9 runflats got better and ones by Michelin in my experience were fantastic and would not change them for normal tires until they were worn out.

I've got a long way to go before my run flats need replacing. But I have a little twist, I have some 17" style 201's with Bridgestone RFT's and they are very twitchy and tramline quite bad, but my 108's with Bridgestone RFT'S are fine I can't really fault them.

So to the guys who swapped back to normal tyres what are you doing about punctures? Do you keep a gel kit in the boot with a ciggy powered car pump?

I only had my Z about 3 weeks and got replacement wheels with cheap non branded rubber
The transformation from twitchy and frankly quite scary at times to controlled and planted was very satisfying and i certainly would not go back to run flat but looking forward to getting on some proper rubber soon as these cheap tyres are not very good...

Between your 17" and 18" Bridgestones Run Flats are they different ...models for want of a better word. My 1 series ran fine on run flats but they were Conti and then Michelins... could new run flats be better if there is such a thing?

As for punctures it is a bit of a 'risk' but when running winter non run flats on my 1 series i had a compressor and a tim of goo... same for my Audi TT QS

How about the option for

Bought car with Runflats, wanting to put non RFT on as soon as funds allow

!! That would be me :driving:
thats where my vote will go,got used to the run flats now so if i have a spare £500-600 i will prob get a m bumper before new tyres

Bought mine with run flats and honestly thought there was something very seriously wrong with the car. Tramlined and crashed on any road less than 110% perfect. Replaced with non run flats and turned a handling nightmare into a car that is a pleasure to drive. RF's - never again!
BTW Bridgestones were as ever, the culprits.
