Dalmahoy's story of his 4 year wait to try normal tyres got me thinking that perhaps a comprehensive poll of all tyre experiences might help others to make a more informed choice sooner rather than later.
I think I've captured the relevant questions but if I've missed anything I'm sure someone will mention it.
OK, now added the waiting to change option. :)

How about the option for

Bought car with Runflats, wanting to put non RFT on as soon as funds allow

!! That would be me :driving:

How about the option of 'brought my car with budget c**p normal tyres on and put on quality top of the range normal tyres on'?

I bought the car with run-flats. I changed them to normal tyres as soon as funds allowed. In my opinion the Zed is a much, much better car on standard tyres...

Went to non-runflats about 9 months into ownership, after having normal winter tyres. Not looked back

As many of the above, running the run flats until worn and will then put non RFT on, but winters on these 17s and hope to get some decent 18s with non RFTs.

Yesterday, finally changed the fronts for Vreds, been running on rear Vreds and fronts Michelin. Went for a long run today and, wow, what a difference!!! Ride more comfortable, steering a lot more precise. Very, very impressed

Tapatalking...

I changed from 17" RFT's on the E89 to 18" Goodyear F1 A2's and whilst they were quieter and grip was much improved, there was a loss in turn in however.

I think the E85, which was absolutely horrendous on RFT is better on conventional tyres, where as the E89 is less so.

I added in the option of waiting to change to normal tyres but didn't know if you edit a Poll all previous votes disappear.
Sorry guys, can you re-enter your experience.

I have a set of 19" run flats for sale, only a couple of months old. 7.5mm tread on fronts and 6.5mm on rear.
Happily changed and won't be going back, so cheap set of tyres for any run flat lovers.

Just changed my Bridgestone RFT's for a set of Vredestein Ultrac Vorti's today.

Got the full set on 18's for for just under 600 quid including a laser wheel alignment.

First impressions are a smoother ride and much reduced noise levels.
Also the steering seems lighter and tramlining is much less.

It has changed the feel of the car quite a lot in normal driving.

I'll take her out for a bit of a spin later to get the tyres bedded in a bit to see how they handle some more spirited driving :)

Just switched had the runflats taken off and am now rolling on Michelin Pilot Sport 3s....WOWSERS! I've only done 30 miles on them so far but what a difference!
Ride - Drastically improved!
Road Noise - Significantly reduced
Tramlining - Not no more hombre!
:driving:

Tyres haven't fully bedded in yet so don't know what it's like in the twisties but I'm never going back to RFs!

Can I change category please? :D

Similar story to richarddaviesgb - I just had Vred Sessantas fitted all round -> was on Bridgestone RFTs before (now for sale if you're looking for some sh*t tyres). The chap from Event Tyres was excellent and we had a good chat - about his E30 restoration project, among other things - while he worked.

I've been out on the most tramliney stretch of road I know - where the A41 joins the North Circular - and the tramlining has basically disappeared. The ride is also transformed; still firm, of course, but no longer crashy. Road noise is also much, much lower than what it was before - in fact, this is probably the most unexpected (and welcome) benefit. Really noticing the wind noise and exhaust drone a lot more now!

Agree with the comments re. the Sessantas initially feeling a bit weird at high speed. There's some serious floatiness going on. Haven't pushed them yet so not sure about any changes in grip/handling.

Bridgstone gripless RFTs made the car a liability on uneven roads and were so crashy, Falkens transformed it. I'de be happy to go with a 'proper' RFT from another maker if I used the car as a a daily driver or had money to spend, but am well pleased with the non RFT swap
