Two dream cars up for auction...

Two of my all time favourite classic cars are coming up for auction very soon.
If only I had the garage space, I would be bidding on both of them.

Firstly a 1978 Toyota Celica 1600ST (RA23). When I was a child, we had a 1972 Celica ST as our family car. I loved that car more than was healthy for a 10 year old. In the last 20 years I vowed to own another one one day, especially as my dad has now passed away. Trouble is there are very few left and most of those have been 'max powered' with replacement engines and the like. The one here is not my favourite colour, or year, but beggars can't be choosers.

Secondly a Scimitar GTC. Again, as a child I used to drool over adverts in Autosport magazines for (expensive at the time) GTEs, as I always loved them, for reasons I can't really explain. The GTC is rare and would fulfil another boyhood dream. They have never been very desirable as a 'classic' so prices have been very low, but are starting to rise now (probably cos they are about the only cheap car left of their era).

Both cars are probably not on many people's traditional 'dream car' list, but I want them both.

If the Celica is as good as it looks, it should fetch good money. £15-20k.
The GTC is very very low mileage, completely original and one of the last, so who knows what it will make.

Love the Celica, my brother had one, his second car after a Hillman Hunter  He then traded it in for a silver 2.0 ST liftback, think it was an 1982 model with the 4 headlights. Great cars. Then went onto the next wedge shaped model. Would really like the liftback but quite rare now. Always thought it was the golden age for Toyota.

Tim.

When I lived in Thirsk my next door neighbour owned a Celica. He collided with a milk wagon on his daily commute down the A1 to Lincolnshire. But bought it back from his insurance company and had it repaired locally. Unfortunately he didn’t choose well and the repaired car was like a crab. The back wheels didn’t line up with the front ones.
I understand sourcing parts for these cars is really difficult now. Anyway haven’t you got a project to finish before buying yet another car?😀

I have indeed Ian. Unfortunately they come up for sale when they come up, not when it's convenient for me.
Both cars above are so rare now I could wait forever for another chance (and I haven't got forever).
I keep telling my wife this, but she just rolls her eyes and gets even more annoyed with me than usual.

Just tell her that as they are classics and when you sell later this year you may even make a profit (or not)😁

I must admit as a youth the Scimitar was one of my dream cars, along with a Triumph Stag.

She's probably thinking ANOTHER dream car that you want that she knows you will want rid of in less than a year.
You could be yellow peril 2.

I can see the appeal of both - I guess it just depends how much you want them!

Didn't Toyota make a Celica GT with a twin-cam engine? That would be pretty special.

I always liked the Scimitar GTC too, but would prefer a Triumph Stag these days.

But how long would it be until your next dream car came up for sale?

What you really need is a place with an aircraft hangar to put all your cars in Andy.😀😀😀

When I was a very small child, the mother of a friend had a Scimitar GTC. I have a vivid memory of being driven to his house after school sitting in the boot because the rear seats were folded down. Even aged about five, I realised that it was far more interesting than my mum's Fiat (which was also a two-door estate).

Well the Scimitar sold for £17,000. :o
About £10k more than I would have valued it at.
Seems like the 'forgotten classic' has just been 'remembered'. :?
