Turning off the Stop / Start Cap(Dis)ability

I'm sure I read that this can be done on the E89 with Carly which I don't have and would probably cock up if I did.

So I was wondering if there is anyone based near Sheffield that is willing to come to the aid of a damsel in distress?

In the spirit of full transparency when I say damsel I actually mean a 16st fat bloke with a beard.

Yep it’s codable with Carly

Out of curiosity, what is this on/off capability?
The functionality that cuts the engine once it has come up to temperature and you reach a complete stop - to be fair there is a button to disable it on the panel where the PDC and roof buttons are but sometimes I forget to press it.
I think it was introduced in order to reduce C02 emissions or at least the result achieved in the industry tests that dictate the tax band and was only available on later models - my previous E89 which was a 2009 MY didn't have it. Also not sure if it is only active in comfort mode - need to check that.

AFAIK, it was only ever fitted to N20 powered versions of the E89.

Thanks - not very often I'm right but I'm wrong again

[/quote]In that case bring it I say - I can certainly deal with that as a downside

Do you mean the stall function?

I don’t have it on my car. I knew a guy that also owned a 35is, and he didn’t have it either.

It’s not a stall function, it’s an emissions lowering function that turns the engine on/off if the cars stationary (unless that’s what you meant?)

It does work as a stall function too. Reboots the engine when you mess it up........................err, allegedly, so I'm told.

If you're speaking about the engine turning off at red lights, stop-and-go traffic, etc, that thang that's been around for over a decade, I remember Germans in Germany calling it 'Stall Funktion'. I've been saying like that since. Minus the German accent. LOL. I know 3 35is's (here in America) that don't have it.

My 2007 123d had it. While it may have helped emissions it certainly shortened the life of the battery and starter motor. :headbang:

If I had known it could be coded to be permanently off I would have got that done, but thankfully I haven't owned another car with that "feature". :)

I’ve never checked, but my understanding is cars with Stall Function have a second battery. I’ve hired a few Subys earlier in the year that had Stall Function.

Some may, but my 1 Series just had one AGM battery that cost loads to replace and had to be coded to the car. :(

I have owned several cars with this (useless and annoying) option none have had second batteries.
You will however find that the battery fitted to such a vehicle (and sometimes also the starter motor) are unbelievably more expensive than a standard item...

In the UK it’s called Start/Stop and if it is enabled it will turn the engine off when you come to a halt and release the clutch after putting it in neutral.

The engine will restart when you press the clutch to put it in gear.

It is dependent on several variables, temp and battery being two. If you are sat with the engine off for a while, it might restart even without pressing the clutch.

Not sure how it works with auto’s but guess it’s probably the same principle, just that you don’t have a clutch to press.

It can be disabled with a button, next to where the roof up/down buttons are. An orange led glows when it’s disabled.

I coded my car with Carly to disable it. Not sure if it disables it or just remembers the last state it was in, whereas without coding it, it always reverts to enabled when starting the engine.

Many Volvos have two batteries..specifically at least the 2008+ XC70 and the 2010+ C30..I’m sure most other Volvos have them..
