Triumph TR6

I was watching an episode of Bangers & Cash at lunchtime and they featured a really nice 1972 TR6.
I've fancied one of these, on and off, for years but never had the spare cash until now. I am starting to want one more; maybe it's my age! Problem is the prices seem to be rising again; £20k plus for a good one from what I've seen :o

If you have the funds, want one and find the right car then simply go for it. You only live once. If it ends up a worthless pile of rust, at least you enjoyed it as it rusted. If it ends up a priceless reminder of bygone years then the kids can flog it, when your pushing up daisies. :D

Assuming you were daft enough to have those equally priceless little blighters called kids.

You’ve a :censored: cheek talking about me buying cars  at least I know what one I want :poke:

Also wanted a TR6 but think could finish up being a garage queen if managed to find a decent one at a reasonable price. So what's 6 cylinders safer, faster, lot more economical in fuel and maintenance, plenty of specialists to get it serviced and doesn't go rusty Has to be an E89 so a deep see blue 35is makes a great substitute and although I originally wanted cream leather, black leather was the likely colour on the blue TR's so just perfect in my opinion. TR6's took a long time to join the classic silly prices and maybe a well looked after E89 35i's with right spec will hold the recent increases in value. Not that it matters can enjoy taking the E89 out in any weather.

I know but I tend to keep buying them in my head; it's much cheaper

Treatment is going to cost as you drive yourself mad rather than driving a car madly

Best combination

Very nice.

I couldn't afford both, so am making do without a TR6!

Actually I’ve owned the Tr6 for 22 years and decided last year I needed a change. I bought the coupe last autumn and for obvious reasons have waited till now to sell the TR.

£20k will buy you a nice car
A really nice one is more like £30k
Heres mine, i’ve owned it for 41 years

I also have a TR6 which at full chat sounds amazing  I bought the best one I could afford and only use it in the dry so it still looks as good as the day it was finished. They are great cars, mine Is the PI you need to run them as often as you can, they hate being stood around. Some TRs above had mine 3 years now wanted one since I was 17 in 1973

OOH, Mimosa yellow. My favourite for a TR6
I can't quite understand why I like them so much TBH. No offence to anyone, but they do look a little "British Leyland". Maybe it's the '70s boy in me!

Some lovely Tr s there chaps, one of the cars I always wanted back in the 80 s but were just out of my price range,it was a choice of two cars really and just couldn’t afford the TR so I got this, not bad for second choice really, still got it

I had a 1968 GT6 when I was 25

Lovely straight six could scare me any time

Shame the bodywork couldn’t keep up with it and tin worm ate it away

Dunno if I’d have another now I’ve had the modern classics- but as others have said: do what makes you feel good eh

I bought one of these when I was 25.

Although it wasn't that one, that was my 2nd but the photo was taken years after I sold it! I've never owned a Roadster/Convertible - just not a fan of them.

But TR6s do sound great. Some years back I had a quick drive in my mate's Healey 3 litre which also sounded terrific. There's just something about 6 cylinder RWD cars with a manual gearbox. :D

agreed

And the fastest I’ve ever been in a car is in a Brooklands Capri- I’d love to own one now

The fastest I've driven a car was probably in that one on the M25 many years ago! They had a 140mph speedo and my mate reckons it went just off the clock - allegedly.

Typical Ford optimism as the 4 speed ones were geared to hit the rev-limiter at 131 mph!

My same mate had an XR4i a few years ago and it really didn't feel that quick any more. My E46 325ti Compact was way faster.

Rose-tints and a healthy does of nostalgia in action!

I always loved the look, and sound, of the TR6 I just couldn't get insured on cars like that in the late 70s - so I bought a Rover P6B 3500S instead.

Although I must confess I'd rather have a TR5 than a 6, just for the old school looks but same mechanicals.
