Considering most batteries in the engine bay giving no choice to most along with potential petrol fumes, I can't see why you wouldn't connect straight the the battery in the boot. Never seen a spark with my quick connect leads. I also keep the ctek outside the car as the lead is thiner going through the boot.

The connections under the bonnet are supressed so there is no chance of spiking the electronics.
Modern chargers such as CTEK won't 'spike' electronics... they're all fancy 'soft start' systems and won't even supply current unless their monitoring systems detect that they are connected to the correct battery terminals...

Blimey I thought this was a simple question - now there is an intense debate on " battery compartment" versus "under the bonnet" - using the supplied lead that you can attach to the terminals on a permanent basis ( then just hook up to the ctek) is the most convenient but now the paranoia in me is beginning to take over - many owners look like they used this method successfully for years :? :?
With the CTEKs, either direct to battery in the boot or connecting under the bonnet will work without problems - pick whichever method works best for you

I don't doubt that, I was simply explaining the significance of the connections under the bonnet.

it is simple. buy one, connect it, plug it in. ...... just remember to unplug before :driving: or if your going to inspect it after its been on for a night or any length of time that using a naked flame is the quickest way to get rid of all the out gassed hydrogen :D

Sorry to keep going on - have ordered my ctek - just noticed the wire attached to the clips doesn't look very long :( from those who do connect under the bonnet are they long enough to stretch across the two points ?

Seriously there is zero risk with connecting in boot, the charging connections under the bonnet are located with a view to managing the huge (250A+) max cold cranking amps used when jump starting or high amp quick chargers etc, something like the Ctek is typically pushing well under 4A.

Amazon sell CTEK extension cables with secure joining clips,I use a couple to bridge from unit to under bonnet pegs

Fantastic idea until you forget/wife doesnt know and drive off with it connected. This was always happening to the golf buggys at the Ford plant I worked at and that was with the charging lead wrapped around the steering wheel as well to remind them!!

my super duper Ctek charger arrived today - took me all of five minutes to set up ( using the eyelets supplied direct to the battery ) - switched on and working .

wow - what was that explosion

Does it then work when you take it off charge?

Sorted, it didn't but once I turned the key in the ignition it works.
Must of been because I disconnected the battery.
