Trade in G29 for a 911?

Is that a cab that is sitting there or coupe? I assume coupe as otherwise my point re the value of cab is proven rather promptly

If it is sitting for a long time, it either has had an accident in the history, is white or something else if wrong with it as the ones at my local dealer seems to shift ok (even though all are above £100k)

I understand your desire for a 911, however, I would recommend a test drive in a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0. Fantastic engine and handling, not so mileage sensitive and obviously cheaper than a 911.

The one sitting at the dealer is a cab. 2019 car done about 28k miles. the colour is red with black inside, roof is also black.

When I ordered my m40i, I was considering the GTS 4.0 but due to slot and price related issue, I ended up with m40i. Because of this history, and whatever unknown reason in my head, if I go for a 718 platform car, I want to get a GT4 or Spyder. I was even thinking about wait for another two or three years and get one GT4RS or Spyder RS. The very original option I had is the 718 Spyder which I've test driven it. But I missed the opportunity to buy the one I want due to some other restriction on the money side and all Spyders are now similarly priced compared to a 911. Then, after some random chats with some 911 owners during my recent road trip to europe, I start thinking maybe I should just buy a used regular 911 (non-limited, non-GT, non-RS, non-darker etc.) and enjoy it more often than those rare version. But the only thing I still don't have answer is whether it worth to spend the extra 60k considering I've already had the m40i and I'm still enjoying it. None of the 911 owner I chatted to has driven any z4. Thus I try to seek some comment from here

I think you answered your own question on why that cab is still in the showroom

Done 28k? Or it's red? Sorry

Being a Cab

Mine has done 18 by the way, 90% abroad

Wow, being a cab is that bad? Never thought about this before.

Did you drive yours to the destination? Or, did you transport it then drive around where you want to drive and transport it back? It's a bit hard for me to only do 18k miles in 10 years.

If you go for a 911, you tend to go for the driving quality and most of us are like that. That does not include the Cab version which is not the same to drive. That was one of my test weekend cars as well, not the best to drive.

I drive to the tunnel, then on the trips as you saw from Tom's photographs.

That make sense. Thanks for this. Never thought cab can be such a drawback. Glad you highlighted this to me.

Yeah, I drove to the tunnel and cross to the other side as well. But my road trip to europe in the last 3 weeks was about 3.5k miles in total. Although it's done with my G31 but I intend to do similar trip with either m40i if I keep it or the porsche if I decide to change. But anyway, as long as we all enjoy what we have, that's the most important thing.

The G29 M40 is a conventional front engined soft top roadster, cruising with the top down it’s great, the drivetrain and electronics are shared with order BMW models, performance and handling is very good. A 911 is different in every way a much more involving drivers car, more specialist and a car the same year will cost a lot more than an M40, it’s up to individual choice which suits you best

I test drove a 992 gts a few years ago and felt it was very wide & heavy , you can feel the bulk in bends and it is too fast to enjoy , the car only needs 2.5 gears to do 70 mph unless on the autobahn .
The 997 gt3 / turbo or the 991 gt3 manuals are the ones to go for in my opinion although the new gt3 has better suspension .
Have a word with your local dealer for a weekend test drive I am sure they would arrange it for you just make sure you go down a few small back roads .
Although I bought my Porsche from a forum member I would advise to only buy from a Dealer if spending a lot of money as they have a 2 year warranty that covers a lot more than other dealers and you can extend it . Cayman Gt4 and Spyder`s are also very good but again have a long test drive as droning exhausts can be very waring on long journeys .
good luck with your choice !
Alternative 650s Mclaren .
Check out Archie Hamilton car dealership .

At least you won’t have that with a 911.

Agreed on the manual gearbox though, a different level of driving a Porsche

My answer to the original question would be an overwhelming YES.

One is a 'run of the mill' BMW, the other is a Porsche 911 (whatever flavour it may be). Any 911 out-trumps any BMW in my book.

I would have a 911 (992 turbo S) tomorrow if I knew I would ever drive it, which I wouldn't, so I won't. And they are a very expensive ornament.
The epitome of a car for 'car people'. Has been for over 50 years and still is.

Have to agree on the comments about the cab version of the 911. My mate had one for two years a 2017 model and fairly recently he was trying to sell it, found it very difficult to find a buyer and he had to drop the price a lot. At one point he was getting desperate and asked me if I wanted to buy it, I wasn’t in a position to do so but even if I was I wouldn’t have the cab version.

it’s interesting hearing that the 911 cab is not a great choice, also the comment on droning exhausts which means we made the right choice with the M40. A convertible was a must have, alongside decent performance and long distance comfort

Nothing wrong with the M40, it fullfills the role as a GT Cab perfectly well.
