Track pad advice please

Hi Franz,

By retaining clips, I mean that for OEM calipers, on the piston side pad it has a little clip which goes into the centre of the piston to keep the pad from moving/rattling in the caliper. Some after market pads do not have this clip ( for example CLs and Pagid yellows) so can be prone to rattling.

You wouldn't have this on an after-market BBK set up...

BTW - CLs require no special bedding in... a definite plus in my book

That is indeed a plus for the brake pads, but I would not like to have a set of pads that could damage the paint of my wheels and bodywork...

Lets see what Beedub find out from the chap who had problems before.... ill keep mine in for now if it goes terribly wrong ill just get the front end repainted, its got a few stone chips on there now anyway... :(

Bee,

I found a few comments relating to the corrosive nature of these pads and after a bit more investigation the major problems seemed to be with the earlier RC5 pads. I have the RC5+ pads which are meant to be much improved. It would be interesting to know what pads the chap at your sdcc was running?

was at the track today and he was on the rc5 units..... i did ask about the rc5+ and he wasnt aware their was an update out..... just be wary as i know your aware of their corrosive nature but keep an eye on things and wash the car reguarly.....

I can now re)port that after a full day of 15 min sessions the set up (RS29's Goodridge DOT5) was perfect.

Good solid and consistent pedal feel, no blue streeks on the disks. Only after 2 back to back sessions did they rumble a little. Drove the car 1 hr this morning to work. No ^probs.

I can recommend Carbotech XP10 pads from previous experience using other cars on track.

They can be quite aggressive on your wheels and they can be noisey (if you don't copper slip them up just right) but they stop unbelieveable time and time again.

They are fine for road use too, work from cold no problems.

When I went on the Sussex meet a few weeks ago, one of my EBC yellowstuff pads suffered catastrophic failure with delamination of the friction material from the back plate badly scoring the disc. Clearly these were a faulty batch of pads and I am currently in communication with EBC to obtain a refund and a new set of front discs.

I replaced them with EBC bluestuff - I'd already purchased these before the above failure, otherwise I would have likely not bought any other product from EBC :headbang:

The bluestuff pads are track / race specific and not intended for road use but I'm pleased to say that they work well from cold on the road and rarely squeal. It's too soon to say if they produce much dust and how they will wear. I've used them on one track day so far and they behaved fantastically. However, they didn't have a chance to get as hot as usually they might due to torrential rain in the morning.

I'll keep this thread updated with how I get on with EBC and also how the bluestuff hold up on track over the summer

ebc stuff are failing WAY to reguarly for my liking their reputation is s**t...... the new guy thats taken over has tried but the quality isnt where it needs to be imo....

Hi Beedub, hope all is going well with your Rayleigh Chopper? :D

In my original post of this thread I mentioned the rapid wear of the yellowstuff pads. When I changed to the bluestuff I found that the yellowstuff pads had all worn more than 50% of their thickness from c 1000 miles on the road and a single track day, which is pretty poor. What worries me far more is that if I'd been performing an emergency stop or braking hard on track when the front pad delaminated, I wouldn't be here to discuss it :o

Correct; I have read this many times about EBC... For me personally; I only buy pads from Pagid for track use. Ferodo sounds also ok with some types op pads. Carbon Lorraine looks to be to agressive for wheels and paint and I don't want to risk damage on them.

Looks good, what's it hiding under the bonnet?

No family at home, just me...but I'd still like to stay in one piece! I don't think I'll buy from them again, so it looks like I'll be breaking the bank going for Pagids in the future.

It's a 535d according the reg plate. Nice car BeeDub although I thought you recommended not showing the VRN in any of your posts after you recent, and shocking incidents?

Consider pagids , expensive but really good, the only problem is unless u cycle them heat wise regularly they make a horrible noise. Bus like squawk.

True; most Pagids are really loud on the street, the blue ones are also not silent... But in the end I can live with them.

Mine used to be silent then got REALLY noisy.... But it doesn't bother me.

Will E46 M3 pads fit our calipers? I know we have CSL brakes but is it just the discs that are different?
