I was supposed to be going to the Nurburgring on Friday followed by Spa in my mates Porsche 996 ( I didn't want to take the zed for the following reason).

Turns out we aren't going now as this is what happened to him at Silverstone last Sunday.

Lifted off on the corner and over steered, hitting the wall. Himself and the passenger are ok, the car was sold to a salvage company the same day...No track day insurance.

Elises are pretty prone to snap oversteer and due to the mid engine config. once they go, they really go! Especially the S1's. Looks like he wasn't concentrating too hard though. Still probably faster than me though. Damage didn't look too bad though. If that had been an S2, the clam would have been a lot worse off.

Common place at Oulton for an off, as there's a small crest as you straighten the car up after the double-apex corner. If you get on the power early you've got to be ready for it to twitch/snap.

Keeping to the left and braking in a straight line for Druids the turn point is the seam that runs across the track. Now, there are two ways to deal with Druids, depending on your car. The first is to ignore the first apex and aim solely for the second one. The other way is to take both the first and second. This depends on your car and setup. From the second apex, let the car run out, but be very careful with the throttle application, as many a driver have fallen foul of the exit kerb and crest just on the exit of the corner.

I assume in the vid right before he loses it he is telling his co-pilot which way the road goes?
He has his right hand off the wheel as if he is describing the track layout.

This thread shows why I was quite happy to track a £2-3k total build cost baby fiat hard where I knew I could buy a replacement chassis for £500 and swap over the good parts a weekend or two with maybe another £200-£500 of parts but simply couldn't face tracking my 120dx anywhere that I could actually hit something.

People don't think about it but taking one hand off the wheel has a massive impact on your ability to control the car. One reason I decided to go for a DCT/Auto car this time round.

I quite agree. I have to steer one handed most of the time with a steering ball. When I took the zed on the track I was gobsmacked at the difficulty in steering one handed.

Bloody hell I think I was on track that day... Wasn't the slow car a classic Aston? They had loads of trouble with noise levels?

Druids is an ace corner but double apex and so people get it wrong. Along with that little bump people catch the edge of the grass/rumble which can throw you out. And just to add a but more of an issue the high trees can leave the track a bit greasy and often a little damp on the inside of the bend. Great corner tho. Mate crashed his Westy if pretty much the same way as that lotus but the range was much worse.

Daft thing was I was on a cool down lap and took a trip in the gravel ... Must've only been doing about 20 mph :)
