Track car - coupe or roadster?

nothing really to worry about with high miles - check for mayo in the oil, any fluid leaks and smoke from the exhaust, same as usual really. I'd say other things failing like water pumps, alternators and expansion tanks are all related to age, not mileage. check gearbox and clutch, and power steering are all ok.

but its a track car right? no point paying extra for a low miles car when you might bin it into a barrier, that money is better spent on track tyres and brake pads. you'd likely want to give any car a full service before taking it on a trackday anyways.
It is being stated as required as a 'track-day car' which can obviously differ from a pure track car.
If you're thinking of driving it to and from the events then of course it'll need a MOT and therefore more focus should be put on the various error codes etc that may cause it to fail.

If you are going to trailer it, then ignore everything I just said

Yes, I’ll be driving it to the track so needs to pass MOT. I’m quite happy with high mileage but it’s knowing the limit of what is too high.

Car will get a full service, performance fluids, track tyres, coilovers, wheel alignment, poly bushes(maybe) as a first port of call.

I test drove a 3.0si coupe on Saturday. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202105112470034?advertising-location=at_cars&price-to=7000&postcode=De73%205sq&model=Z4&page=1&price-from=6000&make=BMW&include-delivery-option=on The steering felt quite heavy which I thought wasn’t normal. Noticeably heavier than my Merc GLC. Is the steering on Z4 supposed to be heavy?

The cylinder head and block on that car was covered in oil. Obviously a leak somewhere, maybe head gasket

In that case, from a purely practical point of view you will be able to fit a bit more stuff in a coupe than a roadster I suspect: tools, few spares, spare wheel, that sort of thing?

"Heavy" is quite a subjective word so it's hard to say whether the one you drove is as it should be, but yes the steering should be heavier than a GLC.

The market tells you all you need to know about mileage. A 60k Coupe will set you back £10k, a 140k Coupe about £6k, i.e. plenty of life left in it still. Apart from some of the ancillaries (e.g. water pump), the N52 has a great reputation for reliability and there are plenty of high mileage owners on here.

The N52 does like to weep oil between rocker cover and the head. Tell tale is if you can see any oil in the spark plug wells, but you'll need to remove the plastic engine cover to check. It's a cheap and quick fix.

Longer MOT, lower miles just a few bodywork scratches, dings
