At £20k this makes sense for the performance on offer. For £28k, as Stark said, your choices become a lot tastier.
I think it was built as "back to basics" sports car, ie front engine, manual, rear wheel drive, good balance etc, for a world in the majority that is now more focussed on massive power, creature comforts, leather, sat nav, not too harsh of a ride yet still handle well etc.
People call the ride on certain cars "harsh" and "unforgiving" yet look back at the old minis at such like with rose tinted glasses on saying how "quirky" and "cool" they were and thats how it should still be, im fairly sure the ride was appaling in comparison to todays offerings!

As I've said before, the RCZ is better all round...driving dynamics aside, it looks lovely. And the Pug badge is no worse than the Toyota badge!!! Pug was better looking the TT half way thru the TT's lifespan....
Ok the Pug needed the TT to get to that point...but make it rear wheel drive and give it a decent interior....and the Pug would have sold loads....

As for the concept I like it, as said by others - the idea of a new MX-5 is nice. Back to basics sports car. Thing is in reality it doesn't even need to be fast or amazing handling because we are part of a whole generation of motorists for who style is more important than substance. The more average joe's or non petrolheads I speak to about cars, the more important it seems to be to them to look fast, not actually go fast. In fact looking fast while getting 60 odd mpg seems to be the holy grail.
I always thought they were aiming to launch it at arround £20k here £28k is just far to much for what it is in my oppinion. Nissan do an entry level 370z for just under £30k http://pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=26151 although obviously the running costs would be higher I would much rather spend my money on one of these.
Another shout for looking like an old Hyundai coupe here.
My only real sighting was of the Subaru version at Geneva this year. I was quite interested until I got up close. I'd only seen pics and not read anything about it until then and I was expecting GTR proportions. How wrong I was. There were so many crappy looking parts from a shared parts bin slapped on it that it looked like a bad kit car version of a Hyundai.
If I wanted a car that was all show and no go then maybe. It couldn't even be called quick let alone fast.

I saw the concept at the Frankfurt auto show. I thought it was "nice" in the candy red color, But nothing brilliant though. Think the foglight/ turn signal looks a little to much an after thought. But, with the front engine/rear drive. It certainly will have potential should TRD do something with it.

Also, as regards power output i've already seen videos of them being fitted with superchargers. I mean c'mon its nearly impossible for a jap car to come out without an array of performance upgrades round the corner.
It will be a bargain *non-luxury* sports alternative to the now absence of fun everyday cars. The scooby and evo have died, the Golf GTI is dull, a 3 series isnt thrilling to grab by the scruff - what else are you going to buy that will get the kids to school and the odd chair to the dump??
