Toyota GR Yaris

Evolve has one, so it'll be interesting to see what Imran does to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z57x0BXCzc

I popped in for a sneak.... Guys I freaking love this..... But honestly am.i absolutely mad for considering this brand new or do I wait till they come down abit ??? So tempted it's unreal. Every body I speak to almost convinces I'm crazy to spend this on a Yaris, then I can't help but feel almost like I'm being wasteful.

This is pretty much the reaction from everyone I speak to... Made me wonder if I'm just not being realistic. Really would love one however. Id leave the van at work and daily drive this .. would make an excellent replacement for my old fiesta ST which I absolutely loved...

Crunch the numbers

Yaris GR
1600cc
3 cylinders
267bhp
1350kg
£35k

Fiesta ST
1.500cc
3 cylinders
197bhp
1250kg
£20k

everyone has different ideals when choosing motors so if it works for you get after it but the Fiesta would have to be mighty bad to want to pay another £15k for the Toyota

If I had £35k for a hatch I just couldn't walk past a manual M140i! :worshipbmw:

Did you drive it? It isn't really a Yaris, though. It has the same lights, mirrors, and aerial fin. Front end chassis is from the Yaris platform. That's about it, if memory serves me correctly. I am waiting to see if any cancelled orders pop up or if any enter the second-hand market in about 12 months time and whether the price falls much. I'm reluctant to spend £35k on any new car after watching my M135i depreciate like a stone over the last four and a half years.

[ref]Mr Tidy[/ref], you can get a used M140i with low miles for a lot less than that.

There is talk of this particular car as a future classic. BUT if you buy one now they will only be worth really good money in the future if they have a low mileage. With a car like this it sort of defeats the object if you don’t put some miles on it. However, I have never had any problem justifying to myself why whatever new car I was planning to buy was the right one and excellent value too. I read a reference in another post this morning to ‘man maths’ and I think that is what could apply in this case! :)

There is a lot of hype around this car but if you look at it objectively it really is quite questionable when you look at what the car offers versus it's cost. It's a turbo charged 3 cylinder that sounds like a vacuum and have not heard anything about it's character which I assume there is none, I hear turbo lag. When did a laggy 3 pot become sought after? Also it's 4wd, since when is this sought after?

We're on a BMW forum where rwd and dynamic ability with non corrupt steering wheels is a merit but suddenly a heavy 4wd system is ok?

Also it's more than 1200kg, that is not light for a car of this size. IMO that's porky. An Alpine A110 with a DCT box is lighter while being faster and dynamically more favourable drivetrain.

The homolgation thing is also just hype, it has too many differences and the actual rally car which is being homologated never completed a race then is it even worth mentioning in the future?

Do we really think on the brink of a recession and Brexit, a 3 pot Yaris will appreciate or even hold it's value when the hype finishes and a new Youtube sensation hits the screen?

THE END

A bloke in my work has one of these. He's about 50 and bald. He looks like a complete tit driving it. Better than his old car though, which was a hyundai coupe with ridiculous body kit straight out of fast and furious

See I have a soft spot for little Toyota turbo cars, I owned a Glanza V EP91 back in the day and it was a fantastic little car, standard they produced 133bhp from a I4 turbo and weighed just 890kg (150bhp/tonne)

Mine was about 200bhp an I managed to (almost) get it to 800kg (so 250bhp/tonne) and it was unbelievably fun to drive.

So when this came up I was super excited and very interested BUT what has been said is undeniable, £35K for a 3 pot with an undeniably impressive 257bhp but because its so fat it has a lower bhp/tonne than my Si Coupe. At that price as has been said a M135 is in range

If the Yaris was maybe £25k to put it more in line with the likes of the ST fiesta and A1 S-line it would be far more attractive but as is, its yet another over priced missed opportunity for Toyota, just like the GT-86 and frankly the Supra as well.

Not sure I could justify the cost when you could get this for over 10k less and arguably a better car?

Couldnt agree more here, for the money there are way better options although admittedly comparing a new car on tick to a used car probably not on tick isnt quite apples to apples but still!

So what should someone who is 50ish and bald drive?
