Towing a caravan or trailer with the zed....

Anyone got a hitch fitted?

When we de-registered the Atom for road use (just too uncomfortable) I sometimes used to tow it to the 'ring on a trailer with my E36coupe. It was however a slow and laborious trip down there stuck at towing speeds on the Autobahns, but way better than turning up wet, cold and miserable if getting caught in the rain.

Currently toying with the idea of getting the roadie kitted out with a hitch so I can tow a trailer with maybe a new trackday bruiser and also a bikerack and maybe, just maybe even a ikkle caravan. Not all at the same time tho hahah!

No seriously, I always wanted to get a little camper ever since my T2 rusted away when I was a student. The freedom was truly liberating.
Would be great to get that back as well as being able to take the bike/s for weekends away.

Done a bit of research already and it seems entirely feasible, if not a tad comical.

Anyone done it? Or am I making a big fat faux pas? lol

€648 to get a hitch installed via:

I have a caravan but it's not allowed near the zed. The tiguan is the designated tow vehicle.

I'd be more concerned that to make the weight ratio right you'd need a tiny caravan. Towing weight should be 85% of the weight of the car. The zed being light (ish) means you'd need a tiny caravan. If it's tiny then there's no point and you may as well take a tent.

Also you'll ruin the suspension.

Plenty of one-ton caravans around and yep, would only need a ikkle one for me and maybe occasionally one other. but she's the size of a pea so wouldn't take up much room lol!

This one looks absolutely spiffing! maybe heavier than a ton but it has a rear deck ffs! wauuuuw

Its all out there now, you may never live this down.
Just don't admit that you are a member on it.

I can't see the attraction of caravans , that said my parents used to have them so that's maybe why , It's just a massive investment for something that slows your progress to a holiday destination thats in a field outside of town .
Hotels are easier , and possibly cheaper .
Each to their own though , I know a couple of people who swear by them , and I notice your mostly in holland , the Dutch do love a caravan , must be rubbing off on you :D

That looks like a big caravan to be towing with a z. But are we living too much in the PC age? What ever happened to 'hopefully it'll be ok!".
Those good 'ol days of bumpers held on with gaffer tape, cross plys and radials on the same axle, no seat belt after 9 pints, hehe.

it's the guilty little "..hehe" at the end of that sentence that worries me the most! hahah

maybe the crazy Dutch ways are indeed rubbing off. Or maybe trying to satisfy a secret/subliminal aspiration to become a fully-fledged pikey....

Marlon here is a link to the BUS AND COACH FORUM which I thought you might find interesting :poke:
And while we're at it, here's a link to the crochet forum Colin: http://www.crochetville.com/community/.

LOL, sorry mate, that caravan link you posted has actually proved useful. Zed may not be the optimum choice for a caravan but I'm still not 100% out of the idea yet. If I could find a lightweight twin-axle van that doesn't have too much nose-weight then we're in with a chance....
I don't care how comical it will look as it will serve a purpose for me. :driving:

Am I the only one who read your link as Crotch-et-ville community :o I was expecting a dodgy community of caravan owners

Magnificent! That's the one!
So my torso will fit- its exactly the right shape. Just needs two holes in the front for legs, 2 at the side for arms and one at the back for head!

It would tow a Swift Basecamp.
