Top Gear New Series

I was a bit surprised... How could they have iconic '80s hot hatches without the Peugeot 205gti?

Probably because you will not get a running example for the budget they had. I would have said the same about the Golf but the one he bought was clearly a nail.

The biggest problem with Top Gear is the name. People incorrectly draw a connection between the Top gear of today and the one from decades ago (probably got something to do with Clarksons rights on the name). It's not been about reviews for decades, it's about entertainment with a bit of an automotive theme. If you want to watch car reviews then go type "car name review" into youtube. The masses don't want to see that on their TV at 8 on Sunday evening and despite being a devoted petrol head neither do I. Can you imagine sitting through practical reviews of 3 bland family boxes to watch 1 review of a car you might have a little interest in? Enjoy it for what it is or turn off, don't turn on every week expecting it to be something that it's not been for many years.

In saying all that. Last nights episode was a bit guff. It needed at least 1 beautifully shot super car sequence and the hot hatch section needed less of the poorly conceived, scripted comedy attempts.

I'm looking forward to the episode where an M135i tries to kill Clarkson. If that isn't reason enough to tune in every week then i don't know what is.

Just watched it on iplayer & I must say it wasn't that great I did find the supermarket bit funny though & I nearly always fast forward star in the car bit anyway so just did my usual.

I used to love 80`s Hot Hatches but I did think their choices were not that great, I will keep watching though as like the last series some weeks are far better than others.

This thread feels like ground hog day. Most of the people who don't like it have already told us at great length before they don't like it yet they seem to keep watching each new series just to tell us how much they disliked it!

If you don't like it don't watch it and don't keep bloody commenting on it. We know you don't like it!!! Use your off button.

err...

I thought it was a poor start to a new season... just old, fat, unfunny guys wasting time and money...

really lost it's spark... no even sure the hosts get on with each other, looked very forced to me...

and the 'star' in the car... someone with really bad dandruff.... shocking... dull... boring...

This....

To me, it brain out entertainment. Yes it's staged, but when that Nova came out of the supermarket on it's side

Nah, better when he binned it on the way back down the hill climb... Assuming that wasn't staged :? :D

I missed it. Was it really bad?

To be fair it did make me laugh.....however yes it was about 80s hot hatches but as we know they are given a 'small' budget so aren't going to get the proper classics like 205gti, Renault 5 Turbo, they did get a mk2 golf GTi 8v but it had clearly been used by some lad and wasn't what you would call a stunning example.

The part with Hammond in the nova in the supermarket was sooooooo funny!

Don't think they would risk it without a cage. That and the fact it's wasn't filmed

Still funny :D

As for small budgets... I actually couldn't believe how much they spent on those piles of cr@p :o
