Top Gear annoying anyone else so far tonight?

You all complain about Top Gear, but yet you still watch it? :poke:

I did watch the first one of the series to give it a chance but all that tyre smoking just drives me round the twist. Why does Clarkson think its so clever to show how good a car is by the amount of tyre rubber he can wear off by driving it sideways???

And yet another dreary and utterly pointless "lets race an attractive bird on a teatray down a bobsleigh track" routine. The only entertaining thing about it was the very attractive girl!

Shan't bother tuning in again.

I've stopped watching it, not even bothered to catch up with the one that I just missed.

5th Gear on the other hand. Seem so much more current and in-line with the stuff going on in the good car magazines. Better drivers too, Tiff and Jason really let you know what sports cars etc are like to drive, rather than the Stig who can't say anything and a less than representative lap time, with JC or one of the others just gushing stereotype junk.

I actually go online on 5OD to watch 5th Gear if I've missed it.

Top Gear needs to end again imo, and re-think what it is going to be. Autocar doing more video, 5th Gear being the best it's ever been, and Evo TV etc, means there is plenty of good car stuff out there now... which leaves Top Gear with a fickle 'trendy' audience who will get bored and move on soon enough, while the small but dependable 'car' people will have gone long ago as it stopped being for them half a decade ago.

I think people don't get the point of Top Gear... It's more of an entertaining show rather than a factual one.

As a whole I like it, but I am starting to think they are just repeating things and do need to come up with fresh ideas.

Fifth Gear is informative, but there's really no chemistry between the presenters and I do find it odly cringy at times.

I actually think that Clarkson is actually quite a clever and informed chap, he is just playing to a role on Topgear. However, I work for a vehicle manufacturer and it p'sses me off when he reviews a car and unjustifiably makes flippant comments about it, there will be lots of engineers watching the review who will be gutted when he does that. Unfortunately a lot of people take what he says as gospel and so he does have an affect on sales (particularly for small volume manufacturers).

My thoughts exactly

It's good fun, I don't see how it can actually annoy anyone! It's pretty good fun compared to the rest of the shite I see put out on our screens and I like the fact it's opinionated and purposely ridiculous at times, its quite refreshing to see. I think sugar and clarkson should run a top gear apprentice next, perfect tv :p

Yup, I agree with that, Plato gets on my nerves but Tiffany is on another level when it comes to irritation... can't even stand to watch a whole episode before switching off, he does my head in that much!

Not seen any TC episodes recently either, but it seems to be dull dull dull, and then all of a sudden they pull a blinder out of the hat, before going back to dull again.

It's all 'Sticks & stones....' fellaz when it comes to Clarkson, he thrives on it.

Like the idea of 'The Apprentice', so how about 'The STIG's Apprentice'... where it's based on bring ya own mota...

Happy days

Only difference is that Tiff really can drive, unlike some of the various show presenters

In which case, make him the Stig i.e. stick a helmet on him and tell him to STFU! ;)

Agree - but they are playing a part of acting up, etc. and nobody in that sort of role can just do the job, other than stig.

I like Top Gear for the fact that i tend to fast forward through most of the inane pointless drivel and it clears crap off the hard drive quickly. I'd quite happily dump the Tv altogether although Mrs Roofless would probably initiate divorce proceedings.
No TV = more time for music, get the LP's out and have a much more rewarding evening

i watch it as its the only thing worth the tv license as everything else on BBC is shi*. As for wasting license fee payers money, the BBC are well on my shi* list with this whole relocation to the north fiasco.

i did the design work for the BBC Mediacity in salford, and i have heard about many things, including the package they are offering to staff of upto £2k per month for 2 years whilst the staff relocate. they also pay for them to have 'familiarisation' visits for them to come up north.

really bugs me.
The F****** freeloading B******'s. That has really pissed me off. Time for a strongly worded letter.

I always thought Clarkson to be a brilliant automotive journalist in the late 80's and early 90's... he has a very unique writing style that I enjoy. Motortrend has some good writers too.

As for presenting on Top Gear... well, that's for entertainment more than anything. Hamsters new long hair looks goofy.

I did enjoy this seasons review of the BMW 1M though.... mainly because I had the chance to drive one a few weeks ago. (couldn't open it up too much though, the engine is still getting broken in.)

Chill. It's mostly urban myth generated by an outraged Daily Mail generation. I wouldn't get so upset about it
