So the first meet Ste and me organised was a success!
We set off and it was pretty miserable, we made out way along the route and stopped at glenridding just before tackling Kirkston... and jeese what mess that was. All the tributaries had turned into torrents and the road over other side turned into a mini river! Not even down the struggle the easy bit! Which the Zs coped with fine then where it leveled out a bit there was a stretch of pretty deep water that was extreme squeeky bum times especially in the low Zs! But we all got through unscaved. But in all the 25 years ive lived here ive never seen it that bad
After that mishap we went for dinner for a slightly extended period of time to let the weather move on a little. I thought there would be some very unhappy people but everyone was in great spirit and really enjoyed the run! So we decided to press on instead of re-route. We set off for Honister pass and the weather was still pretty miserable but manageable. We got half way to honister and the river had broken its banks on both sides with a wall protecting the road so I was fairly jubious. We hit another piece of water about 6" deep and I decided to stop ask everys opinions then asked a few motorists coming from the other side and they all said the it was fine, we had also blocked the road long enough so we pressed on, got up and over Honister no problem with no more deep water, it leveled and we got some blue skies although the torrents raged either side of the road around Honister but and the rest of the run was great, as we came to the end the sun came out and was a great drive back into Penrith.
Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and have plenty of stories to tell!
Just like to thank everyone that made the effort some a very long way! Was nice to see some new faces and some ive met before
And heres to the next one hopefully with less rain!!!
Here are some pics stolen from the thread to summarise the day.
