It was my first attempt Tom, I just watched a few videos on Youtube, and searched the forum for threads on using a DA. It was well worth the effort and wasn't that difficult to do really.

I thought the worse case scenario would be if I screwed up a body panel with the DA, then I would be picking the phone to a local body shop to fix

Did you buy a kit or just the polisher and a few bits? I bought the Monzerna kit and I think I need a smaller plate and smaller pads (3" maybe) for getting into some of the smaller nooks and crannys, particularly on the front bumper.

I bought the Monzerna Kit as well, mainly due to the fact that I had read numerous reviews about how good their stuff is. I used the larger plate with Chemical Guys Hex-logic pads. I finally settled on using the orange pad which is for medium heavy cutting, but didn't expect the BMW paint to be so hard. I had to do quite a few passes with the DA machine before I noticed any difference, but rather be that way than remove to much lacquer coat.

I could have also done with a smaller plate and pad for the windscreen pillars and wing mirror areas, but will remember to get one for next time.

My kit didn't come with the pads Stuart :o hence why I opted to buy Hex-logic pads, which I have to say are pretty good!

Stuart, I've got a lot of Menzerna polish which I reckon is really good on our paint, but I ditched the Menzerna pads because they aren't very good (they were flaking and breaking down really quickly) so I swopped to Sonus pads which I like. I also had the same issue as you - needing the 3" pads and backing plate - so I ordered them and it's definitely a lot easier now doing the awkward bits.

 great post metal licker! If I ever went e89 it would be your ordered spec!

Cheers OG. The pads were OK on the Yaris, which from my extremely limited experience seems to have soft-ish paint. One pass of medium pad and medium polish took out 80+% of the swirls.

Replaced the missing jack point pad and rubber seal around the top of my windshield, LOL took more time to get the old cracked faded seal out than to pop the new one in. Slowly I'm getting all the worn out broken pieces and missing parts replaced.
