To sell or not to sell, and for how much? 2006 Z4C

Anyone able to guide me on a sensible listing price?

Almost 10 years on, and I'm thinking to part ways with my pride and joy... :?
  • 2006 (Oct) Z4 coupe in Silver Grey
  • Auto, 3.0si, MSports pack (seats - black leather, m wheels, steering wheel, etc.), satnav, cd, auto lights, heated electric seats, auto dimming rear view mirror, all the usual stuff basically.. but no auto folding mirrors or cruise control
  • Bought it @ 27k miles/3 owners, now at 38.2k miles (driven 11k in just under 10yrs)
  • No modifications, PS2's on front and PS4's on back with <2k miles on them
  • Replaced the water pump at 35k miles as it failed @£650; apparently its not uncommon
  • Never tracked, well maintained inside and out, polished and ceramic protected, parked off road
  • Currently SORN; kept in storage and not driven during Covid. Last MOT passed Nov 2019 @ 37.2k miles

Notes:
  • Car has 'transport mode' on (came on after the battery was v low having not been used in lockdown); this means the heater fan speed runs low and rear windscreen heater and aircon is disabled until the code is removed; all in perfect working condition once enabled though. Can be removed with the canbus cable and software if you can get it to work... I couldn't. BMW want £180 or so to delete the code, which is a real PITA. I haven't done it simply because I'm not using the car and I don't want the code to come up again and again when the battery is low :|

Looks a lovely car and very attractive milage. It will no doubt be sort after and will sell quickly.

The downsides are areas for negotiation and as they are simple get it to a specialist to sort will be a fraction of the cost of BMW.

Oooh that is a conundrum, low miles makes it worth keeping value-wise, but equally will make some handsome cash on a sale!

How much are we talking? Things have moved on for me since I bought the car. Turns out you can't fit 3 people into a 2-seat coupe, and it's not the most practical place for a baby car seat either.

Anyway, numbers... any thoughts?

Get the bits fixed and you'll probably get £13.5k-£14k easily. Might even push closer to £15k (which is what I would probably list it at).

Appreciate the ballpark figure; thank you

Agree with this, however what is the situation with the service history?

Sounds incredibly low mileage, one of the lowest in the UK I'd imagine.

There's a similar Automatic Hatchback on Autotrader with 41k miles.
it's still
Probably £14 - 15k if the bad bits are fixed and MOT'd.

Or whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

What work has been done as it's still a 15 1/2 year old car.

That sounds realistic subject to good service history if you get it MOT'd and have Transport Mode deleted rather than just disabled - once deleted it won't ever happen again.

There may be someone on here with the software to delete Transport Mode, but if not I'm sure a BMW Indy would charge much less than £180!

I have used both of these firms that are both run by ex-Sytner guys if either of them is near enough to you.

https://www.rbmhampshire.co.uk/ Ross is a bit further from Surrey, but is run by Ross who is "bowser134" on here.

http://www.twgautomotive.co.uk/ Will is just within Surrey.

I know forum members who have used both of them but they are always pretty booked up, although if that is all you need done they may be able to do it while you wait.

If anyone can tell me whether INPA or Creator 310+ can delete transport mode, then I can help you out as I have both. I’m close to Farnham if that helps.

Service History;
  • Before I owned it, it appears to have been done at BMW and maybe an independent specialist towards the end (need to double check)
  • I've always taken it to BMerc (independent specialist in Barnet). It's a 120mile round trip for me to go there and back for servicing and MOT but worth it
  • Had it serviced every year except for 2019 when I did the MOT locally
  • 2019 sounds like a long time ago but it was only about 800miles ago in terms of time on the road

In terms of work - and by this I assume you mean what's been changed or replaced;
  • my biggest expense has been the electric water pump replacement
  • had the tyres changed some time back as well to stickier Michelins; Bridgestones tramlined too much. Also did Hunter wheel alignment at the time
  • think I had the brake pads changed once upon a time; I remember getting it serviced a few years in a row and every time I went my mechanic said thee was about 20% left. While he would normally recommend new ones, he thought based on my driving the 20% would easily see me through to my next visit. And of course he was right several times.
  • probably replaced a windscreen blade or two but you wont find that in the service history
  • guess its not worth mentioning all the usual stuff, but it's had brake fluid drained and replaced, usual air / pollen filters, oil service, etc. your typical list, basically..

Don't think I've changed anything else tbh; nothing else besides the water pump has gone wrong. Never had a lightbulb fail or need replacing either.

I'm pretty sure I own a Creator 310+, and it doesn't let you remove transport mode. INPA sounds awfully familiar, but I don't know if you can remove the flag from it. DIS is the one that can be used to remove the flag.

This is fantastic information. Thank you v. much! I don't mind driving a bit if its worth it, so these are both quite easily within range for me.

I don't think it makes sense to repair the scratch on the front bumper. It's at the very lowest part, and it's so superficial. Someone quoted me £600, saying the whole thing would have to be removed, stripped down, repainted, lacquered and then baked. Seemed rather excessive for a very small area. It bothered me like mad for about 2 days after it happened, then after that, not so much.

There’s no harm in keying the details into WBAC or, at that mileage a dealer may be interested, so try Motorway also.

Have you asked someone like chipsaway to quote for the bumper scratch?

I never did. I spoke to a bodyshop down the road and he quoted something similar. Just checked the Chipsaway website; and it looks like they should be able to repair mine quite easily based on the kind of before/afters they have on show.

Oh dear; I took the car out of storage today and started it up for an hour or so, took it for a short run around the block and gave it a wash. Now I'm asking myself if I'm really going to end up selling it. Tough decision...

If you've driven 800 miles in more than 2 years (and a couple of hundred of those were just to get it serviced) then surely it's not worth keeping?

As others have said, I wouldn't expect it to be hard to sell with that mileage.

Head says sell; heart says keep. In a normal year I'd do closer to 1500 miles. Did closer to 2000 in the first few years, then it got less and less as time passed, and 0 since Nov 2020 during the lockdown. It's been pretty much parked since early 2020.

I only ever used it on weekends and it was our third car for quite a few years. It's 100% a one of my nice to have's. Hardly ever used it in winter either as it wasn't the sensible option. So it's a summer car that I use on weekends when we're allowed to go places :driving:
