20200817_130346.jpg20200817_130337.jpgSo I'm only 19 and have always dreamed about owning a z4 after my dad had a 1.8l z3 and I much prefer the look of the z4 so after saving up months on end I finally had about enough for a low end z4 maybe a 2.0l se or 3.0l high mileage but I knew the insurance would be to high on the latter. After a bit of research into Engines I found out the 2.0 was only a 4 cylinder so I ruled that out and did a little research on other Engines and came across the 2.5 si which sounded perfect for me as I wanted something over 200bhp and for it to be post 2006 or face lifted I didn't want something to old and I do prefer the look of the post face lift. Trust me I would have gone for a 3.0 but I couldn't find one newer than 04 but than I came across a stunning 2006 2.5l si manual with 100k and full service history also with 8 months mot and before I tell you the asking price bare in mind this is a very rare model with only 108 being made and only 88 left. He want 3.3k for it and I saw 2.0l with more miles for more cash this was ridiculous so I just had to get it. The next day I ended up driving 4 hours to this guys house which was on a private road and he had massive gates in front of it so this was a lot more promising than previous car purchases. In the end I got 300 off and got it down to 3k. ive had it for 2 months with out a problem although the defective bulb light has come on but ive checked every light and they all work. The only thing that was suspicious was that I had to order a new log book because he failed to send off the old one πŸ€” anyway what do you think? 20201018_022845.jpg20201018_022825.jpg20200817_130413.jpg20200817_130317.jpg

Good find there and for what seems to be a bargain price. Silver Grey really suits the lines of the Z4 and a 2.5si is plenty powerful enough. It also makes a lovely noise. Enjoy your lovely Zed. :)

Lovely colour and looks great with the mv2's.
Big step up from the punto though and rear wheel drive with plenty of power - take care on the wetter roads buddy

Awesome! I was 23 when I swapped my 04 Mini One for a 2.5i Zed. Loved it so much I bought a coupe 7 years later. These cars are just excellent, enjoy it!! :-)

Edit - actually took the first zed on one of these driving days to learn the whole rear wheel drive thing (that’s how I justified it to my bank account) - really it was just a damned fun day out!! https://www.porsche.com/silverstone/en/experience/psds/open-drive/

Well you certainly seem to have picked up a cracking little motor there. I like the grey MV2s on it. Are those M badges on the wheels done in blue to match the centre caps, or is it my dodgy eyes?

Always have a wry smile when I hear people talk about the swap to RWD. For those of us who are 'so last century' RWD was the norm. I grew up with Mk1 & 2 Escorts and Capris. We always looked a bit suspiciously at Mini drivers with their strange, alien FWD set up. How things change.
But, to be frank, after all these years, and my fair share of FWD cars, I still find it much more intuitive to correct the tail stepping out on a RWD car than the weird shenanigans required to deal with these FWD things.
It's an age thing...............

But I have to say, my old man being in the Sussex Police and getting me a session on their skid pan at Tangmere Airfield was a big enlightenment to me, and has probably saved me a small fortune in repairs over the years. Plus the small advantage of years in the RAF, where I could sneak out round the peri-track in the snow at weekends.

I would definitely recommend putting a few quid aside for a driving course of some sort, tailored to the handling of RWD cars. It won't be cheap, but that first little sideways moment on the open road will pay you back every penny.

So long as it doesn’t give you any trouble these cars are an amazing bargain. My 19 year old bought a 03 2.5i, way better bragging rights than any of his mates and bizarrely inexpensive to insure. N52 engine is a cracker - enjoy, but not too much.

rear wheel drive thing
had no idea they existed but I feel like i should have done that after nearly losing it on a roundabout πŸ˜‚
Google skid pan training, or performance car training. It will be money well spent, plus a very enjoyable day out.

Wasn’t it Clarkson who said β€˜rear wheel drive - you don’t see the tree that you hit, front wheel drive and you do’?

Getting forgetful in my old age ;-) When I did the Porsche one you get to go on their wet skid pan/kick plate - doesn’t wear your tyres as it’s a resin surface covered in water. And as you drive onto it, a plate kicks the rear of the car randomly left or right with random force. Idea is to simulate being tapped on the rear quarter. Excellent for building confidence and skill not to mention hilarious fun :D

I like Martin Brundle's description of his massive Australian GP smash a few years back.
Along the lines of................ "I lost control, we got airborne and then the car just took me to the scene of the accident".

I had a complacent moment and wiped out in my mx5, i could not believe how quickly things went very wrong and ended up spinning/reversing at speed into a power pole and hedgerow - hence my earlier words of caution. Hate to see any z4 driver in the same place.

no I don't think so, I looked a bit closer and its just a bit of dirt on that image covering the other colours. And I wish I was alive back then  to experience all those great cars but its sad to see even the new 1 series has gone to FWD and cheers for the advice I appreciate ill look into getting so practice

Hi and welcome to the forum Josh.

It sounds like you got a bit of a bargain and the 2.5Si is a great engine - plus it's Silver Grey (not biased at all)!

I must be from "enuff_zed"s generation. My driving instructor had a MK1 Escort and my 1st car was a MK2 Cortina, so for me RWD has always felt right - probably why I've only had BMWs for the last 15 years. :D

RWD can bite if you get carried away, but at least nowadays you get things like DSC to help you stay out of trouble - you just need to take time to get used to it while you enjoy it. :driving:

I like your future Z4 plans BTW. I bought my 1st Coupe in 2014 and just can't seem to be without one - these cars are addictive!

I was lucky enough a few years back, to win a session on the police HQ’s skid pan with their instructor. Absolutely priceless!
