TO Bra or Not to Bra

Ok I am opening this up upon myself since there seems to have been a bit of debate regarding the use of a bra on my Z to prevent further chipage that started experiencing no more than several weeks after buying the car and runnin with it. I personally like the look since the this particular bra is a very tight fitting custom bra from Calgon, which I had the pleasure of visiting the shop and having them not only measure and create a template right from my car and then the production people installing it for me to verify some of the issues they had heard of and that I also had read on very reviews, i.e. not fitting properly, too small, can't install...etc)

So I throw myself to the "mercy of the forum court". Have mercy please!!!!! :o

Thee look isn't important. When used properly, that simple device will protect your car from a lot of damage without harming your paint. :thumbsup:
 
Personal preference at the end of the day... but for me :thumbsdown: just looks too much like someone forgot to fit the front bumber...
 
Yeah, get some fluffy seat covers to protect the seats too... oh, and a cover for the steering wheen, don't wanna forget that :poke:
 
BTW, this was posted in the newbies forum and the forum discussion... should really be in general z4 discussion so I will move it.
 
IMHO they look horrible, but are there for a purpose of getting A to B without stone damage. If you run a show car then I can clearly see the rationale, but for a normal road car then ??

I don't think I've ever seen more than a couple used in the UK so they are rare here anyway.

I'd go for the clear 3m type protector that does the same job is largely invisible.
 
That looks SO 1980!! And for the claim that this type of bra won't damage the paint - not necessarily true! Don't let water get under it - you MUST remove it at the first sign of rain. And the paint can get chafed where the bra attaches. I know firsthand.. from my late '70's 280z.

Clear bra is the only way to go nowadays.. if you're going to bra at all, that is. Here in the desert, it isn't an option.. road debris is brutal.
 
Well here is an answer you won't read often: I have both. I have a clear bra installed on an Aero bumper (my Z4 is Sapphire Black btw). I keep the Aero bumper on from April 1st to Thanksgiving. For the rest of the time I have the facelifted bumper cover (my car is a 2006) and use the vinyl material bra. I remove to wash every 2 weeks during the winter and have had not paint/finish damage. With proper car, you won't experience problems and fully recommend both or either way of protecting the front end finish.
 
I would agree with above, its down to personal preference but I wouldnt have it on. Looks like an unfinished car to me/replacement bumper that hasnt been sprayed yet. As much as I dont want stone chips etc I think you can over protect the car and spoil how it looks. I intend to stick to hardest wax/acrylic sealers I can find and hope for the best.

Still you have a very nice looking car. As you say if you like it what we think is irrelevant. Can you get them in clear?
 
So you use that horrible thing to ensure you don't damage the paint, the paint that isn't seen because you have that horrible thing on it. I don't get it.

Clear bra is a good idea however.

Clear bra installation can be as much as $1300 USD. On a long road trip on US motorways, I guarantee you're going to have stone chips. This $99 thing will protect your car and when you arrive at your destination, your car will be in tact. Then you take it off and show how nice it looks. It's an affordable option for driving on busy interstate highways. Remember, our motorways are much different that those in Europe.
 
What is so different about Euro motorways and US freeways? OK so we have fewer lanes and US have more concrete while ours are more tarmac (generalisation). That said they are oft in poor repair, more dense traffic, higher speeds and covered in debris.

Ours too are a harsh environment
 
Oh dear that black one is ghastly... put me down for a 'no'. :P

I bought this thing for £5 called a paint touch in stick :thumbsup:
 
I like it and the only reason i wouldn't put one on mine is that i'd probably run into a parking stop or something of that sort and ruin it.
 
Must be a brit thing. I think they look really naff.Used to see loads of US cars fitted with bra's when we had air bases full of US servicemen in the 80's.Always thought they looked strange then , and I still think the same. If I really had to have a bra, I'd spend the dosh and get a clear one. Other than that, a good hard wax and a touch up stick.When my Z gets a bit manky at the front, I'll get the bumper re sprayed, job done.
