So...effectively, what you're saying is that all deaf drivers are stupid and putting other road users at risk?
:fuelfire: :fuelfire:

That's got to be the most moronic comment I've seen on here for some time.

It's good to push the boundaries every now and then MaINCH

Not really, I had a close call with a member of my family who nearly got mowed down on a zebra crossing by a c**t wearing headphones who had lost reality with his surroundings.

[ref]MalNCH[/ref] my comment was linked to your remark about that having been the most moronic comment you've seen. I don't subscribe to any arguments that headphones don't impair your focus on driving (see my post on page 1 of this thread). I'm glad the event was "only" a close call. Headphones on drivers, cyclists and even pedestrians have given me plenty of problems over the years. Nobody will change my mind on this, and it's senseless to try to argue the facts.

No problem, I tend to get a bit carried away sometimes when a topic comes up that I'm passionate about because it's affected me personally.

Yeah that's understandable. There was a similar thread on here last year about cyclists wearing earphones, where someone was trying to defend it is an acceptable practice. I'm a keen cyclist and have regularly been irritated by those wearing earphones. That detachment simply doesn't belong on the road. We've probably banged on about this long enough now (I know I have)!

OP - I'm glad you enjoyed the German roads. Extended periods at elevated speeds are good for the brain :D

Do they wear them so they dont hear people shouting w***er

I started washing the cars while wearing a pair of QC35's, really helps me zone out and people just leave me alone, cos they know I can't hear them when they give it the old "you can wash mine after you've finished that one"....

I nearly got run over though! Walking backwards pulling the hose straight I walked onto the road and noticed one of my neighbours had stopped...I had no idea they were there as I couldn't hear. Obviously, walking backwards onto the road is a stupid thing to do, and deserves being run over, headphones or not!

Still wear them though, but am more conscious of walking on the road, so check now!

Wouldn't want to drive with them though, as said, isolates you too much - f*ck, if I can get almost run over whilst just washing the car...imagine!

ANC/R - Active noise cancelling/reduction
I can understand that some of you guys don't know what that is. We're not talking about plugging your ears.
This technology has been used for years in aviation, and just recently starting to become affordable enough to be used in consumer headphones.
It happens that I am a pilot, an activity that usually lasts for longer hours than driving, and where safety is not managed based on opinions. All pilot headsets are ANR ones. Fatigue, which gets induced by high levels of noise, is far more dangerous than a state of relaxation. Fatigue can make you sleepy. Noise cancelling won't.

How noise cancelling or even plugging one's ears could decrease one's focus, on the highway, is beyond my understanding. My point was about driving on the highway, not in a city. On the topic of distraction, I should just quote @sure2drive above :) : "Tip on how to make long and fast trips more enjoyable" ? ....leave the wife at home :D

Driving a Z around the small streets and little bridges of the Jordaan neighborhood in Amsterdam.. Now that's something to talk about:

Deaf people are used to their condition, they make allowances for it with heightened other senses.
Lol. They develop "spidey senses" :))

Putting nice comfy noise cancelling headies on with music intensely sent into your ears WILL impair your judgement
Lol. I like the "intensely" part :) You would be surprised to find out that I actually listen to less decibels of music than you do without any headphones.

You do what you want mate. The comment ‘I lift one cup from time to time to listen for any weird noises’ says it all imo, but it’s your life. I just hope you don’t affect someone else’s is all.

Do you get many other planes sounding their horns at you to warn you of their presence? :)

Do you get many cars sounding their horns at you on the highway? You might have bigger problems in that case.

Not often but, in the eventuality they do, I can hear them and take the appropriate action. Planes and cars aren’t really a valid comparison but I doubt I can convince you of that.

As I mentioned earlier, ANR doesn't filter much out high pitch noises.

Guys, don't bother giving opinions without actually trying out a good quality ANR headphones, like Bose or Sony. You don't have to drive, just put them on while at a stop light and notice that you can actually hear better car horns once all the low frequency sounds are being removed.

That’s right, none of us have tried or own good quality noise cancellering/reduction headphones. I posted my comment tongue in cheek but your superiority complex has got the better of you.

Are you listening to music as you pilot an aircraft? If so do your ANR headphones bring you all direction/warnings from air traffic control or other aircraft, do they allow you to hear any audible warning signals from the aircraft thus allowing you to take the appropriate course of action. I suspect they do. It’s not a good comparison IMO.

It’s a FORUM......people comment, that’s the whole point of one.....

But yes you’re right, it’s probably best not to comment on yours as you seem so far up your own arse anything else is a waste of time.
