Time for winters - with the assistance of Mrs. Overall

With temperatures dropping and my GoodYears on their last millimetres it was time to change to the winters. Steph prefers the black wheels (I'm not keen - rather have light coloured wheels) so we are going to use up the remaining tread on these and then fit a new set of GoodYears at 35 rear and 40 fronts or may go for ///M size Vreds at 40 rear and 45 fronts (as I prefer the higher sidewall for ride and looks). Mr wilks says they are available for about the same cost.

Going to see how I feel when I've had enough of these winters . . .

How lucky am I having a wife that doesn't mind pitching in :D

Zed was filthy from the hoon the day before - I'll tackle that tomorrow

:driving:

Firstly, I love black wheels on light coloured cars and yours is no exception. Better than the originals IMHO.

Secondly, am I the only one cringing at the sight of two alloys stood upright on a hard paved surface?! :o Very high risk strategy!

I'm with Steph, those black wheels look the business against you grey Zed

(and yes you're very lucky - she's even smiling)

I know the black isn't your thing Paul but they do look great on the car & especially so on the larger profiles
I'm sure you've covered enough Z miles to feel the improvement going from 35 & 40 profile to 40-45 & if any non Ms ever come my way in the future id waste no time in fitting the ///M sized rubber for looks & for comfort

It's always nice to get some assistance with the car, mrs smartbear even used to wash her z3 occasionally to help me out :)

Regards

Great to see Steph helping, a great advertisement for overalls an pink wellies,
Reminds me of Mrs M she's always there when I need her.

That's like one of those spot the error pictures:

2 wheels stood upright
Jack and no axle stand
tin of something on top of the wheel
table with only 2 legs with 2nd wheel on it - look carefully :)
wife stood near a bucket of water for comedy accident moment
wife stood near a wheel for not so funny accident

:? They've both got rim protection . . . and I'm afraid we use our Zed so much there's little hope for the wheels - we do our best but driving comes before worries over finish - my wife's a farmer's daughter - they have very different attitudes to things like that

See, I think the black looks a bit Chavy . . . .prefer the silver - Steph thinks it looks more stealthy.

I'm with you mr wilks over the rubber but it just depends whether I can live with the move to Vreds - we shall see.

The black looks great next to the pink wellies :D

You're not the first to comment on the Pink wellies - they are 'Hunters' too - surprised they did them in this colour :o

Nice one  Makes for a much nicer day but Steph does tend to leave the cleaning of the Zed to me . . .as I've said above, she has a very different view and just likes being out in it - not concerned about it being shiny and clean

I guess if she did this more often she'd have her own overalls - these are mine and a bit big for her  The wellies were her idea

Like facing a health and safety committee, posting on this forum . . . .

Err we're old enough to manage thanks and I've always changed wheels without axle stands (they do get used if I'm under or working on the car for longer periods though)
Four legs on the table jeeper :P - this does get used a lot to keep things at hand when cleaning the Zed.
Tin of something is Copper Grease for the hub faces.
Judging by your other posts jeeper, it's clear you do lots of work and mechanical magic on your cars (and large and heavy ones at that) so some important points and when I eventually become a Quickfit Fitter I'll be sure to keep them in mind.

P.S. No injuries or accidents were caused during the execution of this task, we both survived :o

once youve gone black you'll never go back - apparently

You can say that, I couldn't possibly comment  , Still prefer silver (I think it comes from being a teenager through the 70s when the first Alloy wheels started to appear - anyone remember Wolfrace wheels?)

Forgot to say - these new wheels are really noticeably lighter than the OEM ones fitted. I'd forgotten that until we started carting them about.

They suit it quite well

Them straps touching the paint work on that roof cover are making me cringe though. They'll be doing more harm than the good the cover is doing.

I think you took my posts seriously - it was a tongue in cheek post...

When you take another look at the photo they're fair comments to be honest - though you missed the spray cans on their sides just by Steph's feet - a disaster waiting to happen

My problem is, when I look at this photo all I have eyes for is my wife - didn't notice anything else . . . . . . :D

Check out my previous posts Bettle - I have a deep and profound knowledge of half covers having purchased and used three different types

All I can say (again) is that, of all the ones I've used, this lighter version (despite the elastic straps) does the least damage to the lacquer coat. I've found any marks can be buffed out with AutoGlym products. Certainly not the case with the other two heavier types of cover that do damage requiring paint correction or new paint

In any case the front wings, bonnet and bumper of our Zed are absolutely peppered with stone chips - I can turn out our Zed looking respectable but it gets driven far more than cared for to be honest. I'm always surprised how well it looks after a claying, polish and wax, despite being well used.

I leave mine out in all weathers. Never covered and it's never suffered, Aslong as its sealed it doesn't need a cover IMO. Just general upkeep is enough.

Mmmmm, interesting that.
But when its pissing down for days at a time I feel a little better about my car being out in it knowing that the soft top is covered. I use the same half cover as Paul and share his sentiments regarding the straps.
