Time for new tyres - what's the verdict?

You could always try Evergreen tyres. Heated debate so far

You just had to link to that didn't you.

I'm on my second set of Hankook v12's and I've been pleased with them.

My only concern is that Stuart mentioned Hankook's. And might be lumped with me. The forum retard. Excuse me. But I have to go now. I really must get back to my shock therapy. :crazydude:

Nah, pretty much every day this week I've sat in a meeting and felt my IQ slipping away along with my will to live.

Well then. When I get to Killarney on Friday. I'll pop into the first pub I see and make a toast to your lost sanity.

Don't. You really shouldn't.

Here's a handy list of things that we would all like to say in meetings, to help you reminisce Bing:

- I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.
- How about never? Is never good for you?
- I see you've set aside this special time to humiliate yourself in public.
- I'm really easy to get along with once you people learn to worship me.
- Ahhh...I see the f**k-up fairy has visited us again...
- I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.
- I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
- I don't work here. I'm a consultant.
- It sounds like English, but I can't understand a word you're saying.
- I can see your point, but I still think you're full of s**t.
- I like you. You remind me of when I was young and stupid.
- You are validating my inherent mistrust of strangers.
- I have plenty of talent and vision. I just don't give a damn.
- I'm already visualizing the duct tape over your mouth.
- I will always cherish the initial misconceptions I had about you.
- Thank you. We're all refreshed and challenged by your unique point of view.
- The fact that no one understands you doesn't mean you're an artist.
- Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.
- What am I? Flypaper for freaks!?
- I'm not being rude. You're just insignificant.
- It's a thankless job, but I've got a lot of Karma to burn off.
- Yes, I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.
- No, my powers can only be used for good.
- You sound reasonable... Time to up the medication.
- Who me? I just wander from room to room.

Not exclusively, there are others - Stuart isn't in that category :P but like I said I don't normally engage :poke: what you typed did two things 1) hit my horseshit detector. 2) caught me after a particular bad morning. These both added to my brain ignoring my rule of don't engage. Afterwards I went out :driving: to feel what proper tyres felt like

Never heard of these Evergreens of which you speak but when I bought my Zed it had Sunnys on and f**ck me they were bad. Not bad in a modern yoof street speek way but bad in an utter $h1te $h1te $h1te kinda way. They were pretty much new and I remember thinking bloody hell 4 new tyres too I've done alright here I wonder why the bloke didn't mention this on the phone or in the advert. Well I found out why on the long drive home. These tyres were so ridiculously noisy that I was 110% convinced a wheel bearing had gone t1ts up. The noise got so bad I stopped to wobble the wheels for fear the bearing was going to let go completely and leave me stranded in Scotland!

Back home texted the seller and said think a bearing has gone and he said no I think it's just tyre noise mate. I thought f*ck off! tyres can't make that much noise and I've heard enough knackered wheel bearings in my time. So I took it straight to my local garage and after 45 mi ns up on the ramp all bearings bushes and the diff checked out OK. So mechanic test drives and says maybe it is road noise but it is rather loud.

So I'm at my wits end now as I love the car but can't stand the noise and I'm worried that if I shell out £600 on four premium tyres I could drive away and still hear the noise.

After a day or 2 of deliberation a search on the internet reveals a tyre I've never heard of that gets good feedback on road noise (Barum Bravuris II). Better still an online fitted price at the time meant I could get 4 for £380! At least this way if I'm wrong about the noise being the tyres the pain will be £200 less! So I go for it.

Thankfully it was the dreadful Sunnys! The new tyres were fab. Apparently they are made by Continental and are well respected by those in the trade. Anyway they've been on a year and I've found them quiet and very grippy in both wet and dry conditions (the Sunnys used to cause traction control intervention in the wet quite a lot).

I still can't believe how noisy those Sunnys were though!

Please believe me Simon_P. I never posted with the intention of trying to get under your skin. Vigorous debate and point counter point doesn't tend to get me upset. Maybe it was the way I said it. As I'm not the most eloquent speaker.

However. What you posted looked to me as a ridged uncompromising "Either or" statement. There are in reality, shades of grey. So I merely used the car analogy & car&driver test data to try and make a point about cost vs. performance on the street.

Fortuntely however. The male of the human species while sometimes quick to anger. Will just as quickly after having a fight. Get up off the floor and buy each other a beer. So. First round is on me. Fair enough?
