Tiger's apology

just in case you missed it.

I just read the BBC coverage and part of the CNN review.

BBC did a good job reporting what happened. CNN and most other American news outlets are just ridiculous. They have only focused on opinions of whether or not he is sorry enough, and if he used proper apology etiquette. What the hell is "apology etiquette"?

My take: Tiger screwed up BIG TIME and now he's paying for it in a way that we can't even imagine. He owes us nothing and he's right, the details are between him and his wife. Leave her alone, his mom alone and stay the F_ _ _ away from his kids.

it sickens me the "entitlement" people feel they have to his personal life because he plays golf. He seemed hurt, humiliated and scared today. And VERY sorry. I actually feel bad for him. Yes, i know he brought it upon himself.

He plays golf very well, I agree. But stuck in a hotel room with only CNN news available I'm sick of hearing his name, I cannot understand why anybody can take him as seriously as he appears to take himself. Sorry but I could not care less. :)

Only other point I would like to make is, that if you become a famous public figure and make vast amounts of money from that, you inevitably to a point become public property and are responsible for your actions and behaviour.

I of course am squeaky clean and would not dream of shagging beautiful women. :D

I really could not care less how sorry this guy is. That’s between him and his family to sort out. I’d be more concerned if he was cheating at golf than “cheating” on his wife.

What does concern me though is the holier than though hypercritical nation we are becoming. We are heading back to the dark ages when women were stoned for prostitution, it was wrong for child birth outside wedlock and young women dying from bodged up back street abortions.

Our society says that once you are married then you shall not have relationships with women other than your wife. OK so your marriage vows say that as well but it’s not as if anyone really means any of that cr@p at the time. If individuals want to pursue a life of monogamy then good for them but who am I to judge some guy on the basis of what he does in the privacy of his hotel suite/country club/luxury boat.

Tiger Woods is a great golfer and he has given pleasure to millions. The fact that a few of those got pleasure from a stick and balls not made of metal and plastic is no concern of mine.

The poor guy is now having to go through this charade to recover what he can of his career – the whole thing is a farce and I feel sorry for what he’s got to go through now.

As for his wife – she is married to Tiger Woods. Is that not enough? It’s not as if he was beating her or abusing her. He had a few extra marital affairs, probably at times when she was tied up elsewhere (I don’t mean that in a kinky way). If she had anything about her she’d invite the women back to have a threesome if she objects to being “cheated on”.

The one thing I am pi$$ed off about though is HMV’s completely unreasonable attitude in refusing to refund my money when I complained because I found that the DVD I bought “Tiger Woods – My Favourite 18 Holes”, was all about golf!

Hi Z4coupbeaver,

I pretty much agree with all you say, especially HMV's unreasonableness lol.

I was looking at my post and the bit about public responsibility etc, and think it could be easily be misunderstood, or have been badly put, more to the point.

What I was trying to say is that I get a bit fed up with those who make a very good living from being public figures, when the sh@t hits the fan immediately start claiming their right to privacy, seems like having your cake and eating it to me. It cannot be claimed that he is just a golfer and the rest is immaterial, he sells his golf yes, but he also sells himself with marketing and sponsorships deals etc.

Though his minor misdemeanour's I have no interest in, the reaction of the media, especially CNN is laughably pompous, like one lady who was interviewed on the street said,"its not like he killed anybody". It seems to me that he and his team have handled the situation badly and given the media every opportunity to make a mountain out of a molehill by treating the whole thing with presidential gravity, instead of a straightforward quick apology and getting on with his life, at least as far as the public is concerned. Talk about driving your balls into the trees!.

Like coupebeaver I am also concerned that we as a society are becoming less tolerant and appear to be loosing our collective sense of humour, I was a young guy in the seventies and was optimistic about society's future, I no longer feel that optimism.

Right after all that, I'm going for a few beers in down town Jakarta, where nothing seems very serious and sexual promiscuity the norm, thank god!.

That is distressing :D
