Just had a scoot through approved used BMW,s and there's 9 Thundernight M40i,s for sale,,, Seems its a marmite colour...

I realise its winter and convertibles don't normally sell well in winter...

But I'm surprised there's so many Thundernights available...

My first E89 20i in Atacama Yellow was built in September of 2012 wasn’t sold till May 2013…clearly not popular at that time..despite being well spec’d.

Sales of G29s have been very low anyway..most are M40i which is the opposite way around to E89s.

Maybe the 4 seater convertibles have denuded the roadster market ?

Thundernight looks fabulous on the new 2 series coupe but I am not so sure that it looks that great on the G29. But I suspect you are seeing many for sale as it was new colour introduced with the LCI model and many I suspect were specced with that colour.

I maybe biased but I love the colour. Plenty of complimentary comments in the 7 months I have had mine. Each to their own of course.

Currently 8 Thundernight's out of a total of 24 LCI M40's on BMW AUC. A lot of folk seem to chop their cars in after a few months for a different BMW and therefore possibly opted for an LCI colour rather than choosing from the existing G29 palette.

Saw a Thundernight M40i a while back going the other way in almost stationary traffic on a motorway. We exchanged extended glances of colour-choice admiration, it was magical.

I think it looks great!

We sold ours in under a week in the showroom, late sept/early October iirc.

And the one Kathleen is pictured with sold in 3 days slightly earlier in the year

Seemingly a lot of dealer ordered their demos in Thundernight, possibly now after the 90 days they need to keep them for they’re appearing up for sale.

I'm surprised they haven't sold, but I suppose it's a slow time of year for selling any convertible!

But it's a fantastic colour.

If I was offered a very cheap cost to change I may consider that colour but it would have to be a figure I couldn't refuse.

I was hell bent on Thundernight when I ordered my new G29 last June but changed my mind after seeing one. Mind you, it was unwashed and a dull day, things could have been different if it were polished and in the sun!

Not regretting my choice of Sapphire Black with Ivory leather.

I think it’s a stunning colour and I’ve specced one up looking at cost of change, but do I love it more than misano blue (the fastest of the colours ;)? I’m not sure.
I haven’t seen the new blue in the flesh either. I wonder what that is like.

It is stunning in the flesh. When I first started we had an M240i xdrive coupe in the showroom in thundernight.

I was doing man maths on it, up to the day it was sold. 374 horses, 74 more than my 718 Boxster had and 0-62 in 4.3s.

Looks far better in the flesh than this configurator pic.

I did get to deliver it to another branch at least.

Just to put your mind at rest, it's a well know fact that Z4s are faster when they are SFR. Don't know why but they just are. :)

For comparison?

The colour seems a bit like VO…the angle, the degree of sunlight and its shade affect the perception of the colour more strongly than with some other colours

Spot on and that's why it appeals to me. It looks very aubergine on a dull day. Nice to have something which is interesting to look at and sometimes takes you by surprise.
